Just having a quick run-through of Hitman Blood Money on PS2 via the PS3. It's supposed to be upscaled to 720p and smoothed out but I can't tell much difference. Is there any way the picture quality can be improved and the aliasing calmed down? I'm playing on a LCD TV by the way so it's probably more pronounced than playing on a CRT but this is a CRT-free household now. Or am I barking up the wrong tree and this is the nature of PS2 games?

buy a ps3 :)

I think its only a DVD that would be upscaled and even then I think its only through component or HDMI

PS2 games will look crap on an LCD tv full stop. I still play my PS2 on a 21" crt tv and it looks much better.

PS2 games were not designed with LCD tv's in mind.

There's only Normal/Full Screen and Smoothing On/Off. I left it as 4:3 as stretching it makes it even worse. Probably doesn't help sitting 1ft from the TV either. :D

you can improve picture quality by making adjustments on your LCD.
turning the sharpness right down would be a start...to give free AA

and im out if idea's already...oh well you know your t.v better than me so just mess about with it i guess.

In PS2 games that have progressive scan option, turn that off and let the PS3's upscaler do all the work. God of War 2 and Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for example have progressive scan modes, those aren't as good as the PS3's method.

You can't really expect miracles though, you are basically asking the console to upscale 576i to 720p. It's not going to provide the most clean image around.

I tried the NTSC 480p option and that actually gives a better picture. It doesn't look as sharp but it's helped with the aliasing.

The 360 did a decent job of it (at least on some games). I remember playing Splinter Cell : Pandora on the 360 and thinking it looked fantastic, almost next gen, and thats on 42" HD plasma.

In the end I gave up and bought it [Hitman BM] on Steam! My laptop seems to be OK with it but the keyboard/mouse combo is a bit clunky compared to a gamepad.
