I got a load of programs in add and remove programs which I cannot uninstall as it opens up the windows uninstaller window. Which because of some virus on my comp I cannot use it. I tried ccleaner but that uses the windows uninstaller. Is there any other program I can use which won't open the windows uninstaller?

I don't think it's been completely removed, it's one of those infections that hides itself pretty darn well from scanners. Right now as I type this I am getting serious flicker across my screen to the point I cannot read any text. I have to highlight text with my mouse to read them better and still that's difficult. I am using windows xp home edition and I cannot install another windows installer version. Is there no other program that I can use?

Have you done a virus scan / malware scan?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481

could try revo too- trial http://www.revouninstaller.com/

I have done a virus and malware scan and it quarantined some detections, then I rebooted and still got problems. I tried ccleaner and revouninstaller and those don't help, they open up the windows uninstaller. I tried that work around in the microsoft link. Is there not something similar to that but a software that does it for you?

Or try CCleaner, that will uninstall programs as well.

CCleaner just runs the same command lineas noted in the add remove programs registry entry for the product.

If it uses windows installer to run then using CCleaner will be no different.

There are manual ways to do it, but tbh to get rid of everything a program has installed manually might be an arse.

And try reinstalling the windows installer service as well.

But your best option by far is going to be to format if your system is still infected this badly.
