Any word on the E5200?

Quite hard to tell if it's a good oc'er as not many people have them yet but with that kind of multi I can see it being awesome when pairing with a p45 board and decent memory.

It has a 2mb cache (compared to the e2xx0's 1mb) 45nm architecture (compared to 65nm) and is a different core (Wolfdale) which is more up to date. As far as I can tell it's a e7x00 series with a lower clock and slower FSB but I could well be wrong there.

For the price it's a no brainer when you compare to an e2xx0, although that's to be expected as that's it's successor.

Noticed that ocuk now have this in stock,it says 1mb l2 cache, just checking is that right?
i thought it had 2mb

Considering getting one, but not sure if an e7200 might not be better.

Don't really want to push FSB over 400MHz, so the e7200 will be aiming for 3.8GHz. Wit the e5200 high multi, the sky really is the limit... though I don't imagine it would get much higher than e7200 could.

Oh well, have ordered one of these. Mainly because I have felt my system has been a bit sluggish with the quad and want to see how it runs with a dual with a decent clock. At least this chip is a cheap way of finding out :)

I am hoping 4GHz will be easy(ish). Though at this price, I don't care about abusing the chip a little - if it only last a year, then it's quite replaceable :)

You sticking it in the Maximus Formula? This could be interesting. Should make for a decent overclock hopefully.

Yeah, will be in the maximus.

This quad of mine just doesn't "feel" right. Had a quad some time back and this one just doesn't feel like it has the same oomph, and its not a good clocker either.

Though that was run a an MSI P35, so hopefully it is not this board. Though, surprisingly graphics performance was better on this maximus than on the P35 with a 4870.

Need to get rid of either the 2 4850's I currently have or this 4870, cause I keep swapping in between and can't decide which I prefer :(

Well, I have a lot of bench info from my P35, and a little from the X38. I will try and do some more with the q6600 and 4870 tonight, but I find benching one of the most boring and painful experiences, so might not get a whole lot done.

It's mostly Crysis and Assassins Creed that bug me with frame rates. There are some major frame rate dips on those 2. While I know Srysis in gen doens't run well, I am sure Crysis is running worse than it used to with P35 and my old Q6600.

With AC, I get dips in the same places no matter what graphics settings I lower... which makes me think cpu bottleneck - but this is with a q6600 at 3GHz, so there is something not running properly somewhere.

Anyway, I am waffling. Will post back here when I have done some testing and basic OCing.

Haha awesome. I'm not too fussed about how it benches-at the same speed as my E4500 it ought to outperform it slightly (or at least run cooler). Really all I want to know is how it clocks-I can't get my 4500 higher than 3.2ghz, so want something that goes a little higher!

do you think a overclocked e5200 running at 399mhz fsb on a asus p5q pro would be fast enough for a 280gtx?

This CPU at 3.6GHz or above should be enough for that GPU.

You will not be able to run it on its default multiplier at 400 FSB though - as that would equate to 5GHz. Would be nice but unlikely :)

I want 10 x 400MHz FSB, but if I could get 11 x 400MHz FSB I would be over the moon - doubt it will happen though :(

is the multiplier locked or do i just run the fsb at 333mhz ?

The multiplier will allow anything from 6x to 12.5x to be selected.

Don't think you would jsut be able to up the FSB to 333 (4.1GHz approx) with these chips and their high multipliers, because it would need some serious voltage adjustments/tweaking.

You might be able to throw it straight to 266 (3.3GHz approx), though even that will likely require some minor adjustments.

not an issue, was running e6300 @ 1.325v to run 3.2ghz, ended up leaving it at that voltage and running 2.8ghz.

Really guys do you want this thread closed?

I think people have got the idea - read the FAQ ;)...

ps3ud0

Hi.... You can go to straight to F9...It will contains all the previous updates.

or F11 which is the latest (July 2008) and supports E0 Stepping for Wolfys.

Also - forget the floppy, you can update with USB Flash drive now using the QFlash utility which the board supports.

Just:

  • extract the BIOS to the USB drive.
  • Restart
  • Press END on startup
  • Recommend save current BIOS
  • Then update with new BIOS.

Works a treat. I've just done so as prep for my E8500 E0 adventure :)

I've been on the fence about getting a E7200 for ages now, and this might push me over, as I could get £50 for my E6550.

I take it a E5200 2MB @ 3.6Ghz will be better than a E6550 3MB @ 3ghz?
