Any word yet on the mysterious rumoured RDNA3-exclusive AI upscaling?

FSR 3 looks to be driver bound, so no FSR 3 for non AMD cards, also no info yet on if this will be locked to RDNA3+ only.

Edit* Seen it's been mentioned lol.

It makes sense, they need a win on their side. If it worked on any card like FSR2.x, then people would just not bother buying an RDNA 3 card because Nvidia's cards are superior in terms of features available in bot consumer and professional space, as well as drivers and support across the board.

With FSR being driver level, this means AMD know that if it's good, then people will jump to AMD for the slightly cheaper pricing vs Nvidia for the higher end cards and benefit from FSR 3, especially if it's inputting a frame ratio between real frame vs Nvidia's single frame insertion. So technically AMD's FSR3 should yield greater framerates than DLSS3's frame gen.

We also don't know what tricks Nvidia has, they could also unlock additional frames in a future driver release that does the same. If AMD can do it via driver alone since they have no dedicated hardware for it, then so can Nvidia and bolster it with the hardware doing all the work.

I be interested to know how many people use fsr as based on my own experience and others on Reddit etc. very few actually use it unless there really is no other choice:

fc 6 - had to use it at 4k due to lack of grunt, was meh for 1440p but thankfully fps was good
re games - meh, thankfully performance was great at 4k and 1440 so need for it
riftbreaker - meh, thankfully performance was great at 4k and 1440 so need for it

Problem with amd is... Even if this is great and on par with Nvidias, the uptake is probably going to suck for a good while.

I'll be amazed if their latency is as good as nvidias too, especially if adding more than 1 frame....

Callisto Protocol actually did FSR well, but it did have its face texture weirdness when zooming in during photo mode, but other than that the upscaling was very good.

Haven't played that yet. Waiting for it to drop more in price. I think most of the issues it had on launch have been patched now?

Its one of my issues with all this tech. Increasingly it will be locked to the current generation,so the next generation if you want the better version, you got to upgrade.

DLSS1/DLSS2 was made to work on multiple generations, like FSR1/FSR2 is. Once they get people used to it,then lock it down to the latest and greatest. Even if the hardware is capable enough you have built in obsolescence there. A bit like with smartphones and not getting OS updates.

Its where I saw this would eventually go.Wonder how long before you pay a yearly subscription to access these software features?

DLSS2 will always remain, DLSS3 isn't an upgrade over DLSS2 remember, all it is, is a superset addition on DLSS2 by adding SER and frame generation. The DLSS2 part of DLSS3 is the exact same as just DLSS2 and will remain as such, if one gets revised, both get revised because they are the same thing.

Exactly, Nvidia have already started doing thing with the 4060TI it would seem. Release poor hardware for the same price and performance has previous gen but look DLSS3 will give you double fps.....

Ed just seen this. Seems a way off still (August says Ladies and Gentlemen).

Lets hope it doesn't spiral down that route, its one of the not so many things AMD have left going for them.

played with fsr 2.1 on mw2 just to try it out and its not to bad stuck a pretty solid 150-160 fps in normal mp

but it is a touch hazy

Yea, although I also blame game studios and this trend of unfinished games. Unfortunately looks like hardware manufacturers will need to pickup the slack until more people vote with their wallet.

The new trend of voting with wallets needs to apply to games as well as hardware. CD Projekt Red didn't get my cash for Cyberpunk 2077 until 2 whole years after release. That's how I buy all my games.

If people stopped buying unfinished games, the issue would fix itself. Instead, gamers are voting for unfinished games.

Thankfully, gamers have started to vote for cheaper and better graphics cards so they're slowly learning.

Didn't you buy cyberpunk from release Nexus?

I pre-ordered as knew I was going to get it regardless due to the genre of the game. Thankfully it played well for me on my 2600 cpu, 8gb ram and vega 56 then my second play through with the 3080, 16gb ram and 5600x was great too, only issue I encountered was t pose V and the odd floating object, no crashes, no game breaking bugs.

Most of the serious issues with cp 2077 were on consoles, especially old gen consoles, pc was generally ok except for some poor npc behaviour, which was the main issue, metacritic reflected this.

I would say the games released this year are in a considerably worst state than what cp 2077 ever was on pc.
