Ok so i have my copy of mass effect arriving tomorrow (i hope) and have read a lot of bad reviews regarding this DRM bs, now just say i use up my stupidly low install number of 3 and i really dont wanna spend another £20 is there a way i can do a work around or would i be stuck with another EA piece of rubbish ?

Don't know that you have been reading but I played it with no issues other than its an RPG (never played before) and I ain't sure if I will ever complete it (backed up saved after PC rebuild/Format).

AFAIK the limit applys to major hardware changes and operating system reloads, not uninstalls / reinstalls, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Worst case scenario if you use up the installs, give EA a quick call they will reset in less than 5 mins, its not a premium number.

The number should be in the documentation, otherwise get it off there website.

It's not an ideal system they use, but it isn't hard to go with the flow and enjoy the games.

You've bought it already so just a crack, why bother with all this removing and installing BS when you don't have to.

Indeed, there's no online mode so cracking it will cause no issues at all. Cracking a game you own iirc is completely legal, there's plenty of websites where you can obtain one.

The two go hand in hand these days.

No dvd wont solve his install problem. and then there's the dodgy legal ground no cd/dvd comes under as opposed to the definite illegality of the other kind (ie serial and activation cracks)

Legal ground obviously isn't an issue for the OP. He's asked about work around for DRM protection :p

I thought, in the case of Mass Effect anyway, that activation occurred the first time you ran the game executable rather than during installation? Hence why I said there's probably a way of doing it with a no dvd (remembering my hand in hand comment).

I'd hazard a guess that we probably shouldn't go into more detail than that on here.

Majority are .exe replacements now, rather than the old patches. Can i ask a question though. If it doesn't use the internet, there's no technically possible way it can tell how many times it's been installed? Unless it checks internet on each start-up. Which bloody annoys me as it slows crap down. Thankfully, even Vista is easy to get around with this, so Mass Effect should be a doddle.

Might get it at lunch-time, though would be cheaper online. Got both Xbox 360 and lovely Pc in sig, anyone got experience of whether the PC port is much cop? I heard it was designed for controllers, so could be dodgy, though i hear the graphics, meu's,etc rock.
