Next year my dad turns 60.
He is a massive Formula 1 fan and has been since he was around 9-10 years old.
A few years back I looked into sending him on one of these single-seater driving experiences but at the time cost was restrictive.
I've taken another look now and the cost isn't so much of an issue, however you do seem to get a lot less for your money.
I'm sure that when I looked all that time ago you got to spend nearly all day at the venue with hatch/saloon training in the morning before being let loose in the single-seaters in the afternoon.

I was just wondering if anybody has been on or knows anybody who has been on one of these experiences recently and if so was it good?
Did you get plenty of time or did you just feel that they wanted you in and out nice and quickly?
If it was enjoyable where did you go?

I know it isn't Forumula 1 driving but short of spending thousands (yer I've found a palce that lets you take out some old formula 1 cars the place has collected over the years) this is really the closest I can get for him.

Any opinions, etc appreciated.

Mallory Park do an F1 experience day. Cant remember the details but my friends dad went on it for his 50th and absoloutely loved it. But it cost in the region of £1500 IIRC.

Yer that is the one I've seen that I know my dad would love but unfortunately a little bit out of price range.
I think it was a two day experience, day one spent throwing Ferrari and Porsche around, accomodation overnight and then day two spent in their collection of F1 cars.
I KNOW he would love that day and would remember it forever...it's just a tad over budget for us :)

The majority of experiences we've seen are around the £150 - £200 mark.
Seem to include around 6 laps with an instructor in saloon/hatches and then 7-8 laps in the single seaters (Formula Ford kind of level).
Sure they aren't going to do like an F1 but I expect being so low in a single-seater with a car that weighs less than a feather, you're still going to get a pretty amazing experience.

I would look at bookatrack.com. Their main business is track days, but they do have a couple of Caterhams that they will hire out for the day, and they will have instructors avalaible. It will cost more than the experience days, but he will get loads more track time.

Yeah, did single seat formula renault car around a month back at Thruxton. Great fun.

Need legs like Will Carling to gett he clutch down though!

Also did the Ferarri F340, AMG SLK and RX8!

I did a Johnny Herbert experience at Rockingham. I got 10ish laps in most of the cars. (and on different circuit setups)

Some of the cars....
elise 111s
wrx sti
leon cupra R

Drove the elise and wrx on the handling circuit, also drove loads of laps in an autotest car. All with instruction.

I drove the leon on the oval, with instruction, then the single seaters without, bout 10-12 laps

Some off track instruction before a single seater free session with all drivers on the track.

Followed by a very fast passenger oval session in a larger engined converted single seater.

I also had a skid car lesson, a 4x4 course, a pit stop course, breakfast/lunch and dinner all provided.

All in one day :) 7-7
