Anybody else rubbish at RTS games?

watching replays is a must if you want to get good quickly....to learn new tactics.
even watching your own replays so you can pick up on the mistakes you make.

having different strategies for different maps......if you're new and having problems then its probably best to just play 1 popular map and copy someones else's strategy from a replay.

i did that in forged alliance and within 6 weeks(didnt play everyday) i had ppl screaming abuse at me for joining a server classed as noobs only.
its not because i was soo good...because im not i simply copied someone else's build order but hey its a start and stopped me from being a burden to my teammates :p

I think the major flaws in my RTS game are:

-Investing too much in tech/upgrades early on, I just like having "the best" as a starting point
-Not protecting resource gatherers enough
-Worrying too much about 'wasting' cash on multiple buildings of the same type without properly weighing up the tactical advantages of doing so (repairing/healing units, spreading my base, contingency in case of base destruction etc)
