Horror story for you guys... walked into one of my friend's rooms at uni (she is on the same course as me - computer science) just as she had finished downloading some IM software. Up pops a Norton security message (already cringe-worthy) saying a virus has been detected. She clicked ignore.

Took me hours to clean that stuff off...

I dot have this, but I do have Obsessive Compulsive Upgrading Disorder.

Not only do I feel the need to constantly upgrade my own PC, I usually jeep trying to get others to upgrade theirs as well

It offers very little benefit to experienced users. A good AV, firewall and malware bytes is more than adequate. No one likes a PC with an opinion.

with my parents I have had to resort to only giving them limited accounts with further controls via a security suites 'parental control features' (oh the irony) to stop them screwing up the PC that I built for them.

Oh and I also suffer from this syndrome, cant believe how many people don't keep the computers up to date and allow the desktops to become cluttered with so much rubbish

Oh, and I keep UAC on. It's a pain in the bum until you've allowed all the things that you use regularly, but it does stop programs you don't want to run from running themselves. Nowhere near as good as Linux, but still a desirable feature nonetheless.

Has anybody ever seen someone download a smiley pack from a popup? I think I would die inside.

I leave UAC on too. It just allows me to confirm I'm running the right program, sometimes I move my mouse too fast and misclick

Also due to my sister's downloading I managed to prevent a virus attack on her PC thanks to UAC. She kept ignoring the anti-virus warnings :mad:

Eurgh, I hate UAC. It slows everything down and is completely unnecessary, and often causes things to crash. I just get AVG think for myself.

I've been to my friends house (Who DOES know a bit about computers), and he had AVG on, his start bar filled with processes as soon as he booted it up, IE the default browser, and worst of all...

His desktop was his downloads folder. The whole desktop was full of useless junk, and instead of clearing it out he simply made the icons smaller. It looked horrible and I wanted to kick that laptop out the window...
