I'm 19 and recently a stuttering problem i had when i was a young child has came back. I stopped stuttering when i was about 10 but around a year and ahlf ago it came back. It only seems to affect me when i'm trying to recite a story to somebody or if there is a group discussion. It feels like someone is physically restraining me from saying the word. Usually it's words like, can, I and what, mostly at the beginning of a sentance. It also gets a lot worse with alcohol, there was one time where i went to the bar and couldn't order a drink (no i wasn't that drunk) :p.

Anyway, it's really starting to grate on me, sometimes i just have to refrain from speaking as i can't get the first word of my sentance out.

Just wondering if anyone does suffer or had suffered from this and if so what do you find is the best wayto surpress it?

I don't have a stutter, but I have a few speech problems. Unlike you, I find that alcohol actually relaxes me and makes it easier for me to speak.

That's a word i-i-i-i-i i can say!

I'm VERY thankful that I have never suffered from a condition like this. When I was a kid I would get frustrated with people who did suffer from it, but having grown up I have realised that it must be even more infuriating for the sufferer and I genuinely sympathise with them.

I've been finding myself increasingly susceptible to becoming tongue twisted these days, bordering on stuttering sometimes, and it's damn annoying when it happens - I never had a problem when I was younger though (I'm the same age as the OP)

Breaking Bad fans should get it!

I have the exact same issue. At 31 I don't care about it anymore and just get on with things. I often find know one notices anyhow, my fiance finds it cute although I think she is mental.

When I feel it coming on I sometimes will pause and then re-word things so I do not say the word I was going to stutter on. But other than that don't let it get to you ;)

Only when I'm slightly intoxicated. But speech then is the least of my issues, walking is far more challenging!! :p

But seriously, only when I rearrange my thoughts or a new thought pops up in my head while I speak, will I stumble over words. But I guess that's normal. So can't really say I have a stutter issues in normal ever day life.

Used to stutter when i was ~10 and did the above to get round it. Then went to a speech therapist a few times and haven't stuttered since. Theres bound to be some internet resources if you dont want to go to a therapist.

I have for quite a few years, im not even sure when it started but probably before i was 10. I have issues with 'w' which means I mainly have problems with asking questions. It gets even worse when im drunk but I think thats because I talk more openly about thoughts i have floating around in head. I can talk 'on the fly' just fine but if i have to think about what im saying then it increases the chance of me stammering, I assume its the same for all people who stammer.

I use the old rearranging the sentence trick but it only helps so much. Fortunately it doesn't affect me too much

I try to rearrange my sentance when I know i'm going to stutter but that doesnt work all the time unfortunately.
