Quite tempted as they can be bought quite cheap these days, anybody into them and care to offer any pointers or advice please?

Great fun - got a 3m radsail here but only really use it when we go to the coast and thats not very oftern.

Got mine for £80 off the bay and came in a rucksack

Cheap = rubbish / dangerous.

Have a lesson first, then go from there. Check out flexifoil/radsail forums.

Note, 3m Radsail is not cheap or rubbish. But it's a little small for low winds / jumping.

Eventually you'll have 2/3 kites, for different strengths.

I'm planing to get my first one when I can next get down to Bristol. Probably looking at an Ozone Imp (it was recommended to me on a kite forum). I know it's a bit puny but I plan to do quite a bit of flying after work so I'll probably always need something that's not too demanding.

Yeh start small, and learn what you're doing first. Ozone equally good brand, can't comment personally on the kite exactly. It's an extreme sport so expect to get a few little bumps along the way if you want to progress ;)

Boycee, do you need a helmet from day one, or is it something you only need when you fly bigger kites and buggies and stuff.

I don't want to ask on the kite forums, it seams to be a very contentious issue with them.

It depends on how big your kite is and how windy it is. The thing is, you should wear a helmet if you don't feel safe. Not wearing a helmet because you think you look stupid is madness.

So my advice would be get one, then you can always choose not to wear it.

It's a fantastic sport to get into. I got my dad one for an xmas pressie a couple years ago and when we took it out on boxing day I was hooked! I had to immediately go and buy myself one too.

Be aware that it is an expensive hobbie. You start with 1 small cheap kite, and before long you are wanting bigger and bigger ones for low wind days and jumping etc, as well as wanting a buggy or board.

As far as helmets etc it will kinda depend on the size of kite you have and the wind you use it in really. for your first kite a helmet is probably overkill as you will start in low winds with a smallish kite and just find it tires your arms out a bit, rather than dragging you about the beach. However I wouldn't get into my buggy with one of my bigger kites without my helmet etc.

oh if you do get into it and fancy buggying etc then make sure you get insurance and also check that you are allowed to buggy where you want to fly as there are beaches around where it's banned by the local council

I have a 6.0m PKD Buster II kite :D

My Brother in law let me fly his Buster II 3.0m and that was enough to get me started :)

The Buster II is a great starter kite, I read loads of reviews. The standard package is superb, complete with decent lines, kitekillers (bungee cords that go between wrists and brake lines, so you can let go of kite and it will auto apply brakes).
