Just wondering as i'm thinking of trying out WP7.
While I like Android i'm getting a bit bored of it so want to try something new.
So,anybody that's switched: What are the pro's and cons?

I have been thinking about picking up a Lumia 800, Ive tired it so many times, seen millions of reviews but every time I use it for 10mins or so I miss so many things from my S2. I think comparing WP7 to my 4s the move is much easier as they do similar things just in different ways but android is a different beast all together.

However I would like to hear others views on this.

I did. Had the Nokia Lumia 800,good phone and really liked WP7.

Missed the selection of apps as no where near the same selection for WP7. Also missed flash support on some sites I visit. In the end though, I really just bored with the whole look of it.

So I'm back on Android now and glad I am :-)

Depends how bothered you are about modding phones. WP7 is very locked down, probably more so than iOS.

If you liked the freedom of Android, you might get bored of WP7 very quickly. Not to mention the limited apps available.

Show stopper for me is that you HAVE to use the zune software to transfer files. It is impossible to mount as a storage drive by default. Can be done with registry tweaks I'm told, but even that's "not recommended"

I wouldn't move now personally. You'll only regret it when W8 comes out. I recently bought a Lumia 710, but I fancied a change of handset, got a good price and my contract runs out in October anyway. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

Funny you should say that as I was thinking about waiting til WP8 and Jellybean come out and then weighing up my options.
See what phone get released for each one. I know Google are bringing out their range of Nexus phones by various manufacturers. Might see what MS do as well.

I haven't actually used a W7P yet. But my work colleague went for a Lumia 900 upgrade and discovered it didn't have a bunch of Google apps (Latitude being the main beef) and promptly returned it for a HTC One X (paying extra for it to) even after she swore blind she wouldn't buy a HTC again after her Desire crapped out on her too many times to count.

I personally would to get my hands on a W7P just to see how it's like. However, I love Google Maps on Android and I love the customisation. Live tiles are great but I'd like a lot more.

gMaps Pro ;) It even went free for a day which is when I snapped it up.

I did switch from Android to a Lumia 710. From an HTC Wildfire S that started to crash after every phone call

Compared to that device, this cost £150 and is so, so much better. Most annoying thing was the Wildfire S had only around 100MB of system storage (mostly taken up by Google app updates/Facebook). So even after moving some to SD you quickly ran out of space. From what I can tell now even lower-end devices have pretty good screen sizes and decent enough system storage.

I definitely wouldn't get say a Lumia 800 over a SGS II. Never. Especially as the Lumia 800 is the Lumia 710 with a bigger (but same resolution) screen, better camera and better shell. Same internals though.

What with all the trouble Nokia is going through at the moment, coupled with nobody knowing what upgrades current-gen WP devices will get, I'd stick with Android. Apps are (compared to Android and iOS) pretty dire as well.

As much as I dislike Android, I would have to say to stay with Android over WP7 as WP7 is a failure and WP8 will be out at some point which I suspect will either be the make or break part.

Nokia is cutting more jobs and MS really dont seem that interested in their own WP7 platform and dont really advertise or release frequent updates for it which is weird. I went to MS TechEd 2011 and they didnt even have any windows mobile devices on display! It was as if the company doesnt see a future in them! You would think at a developer and new hardware conference they would be pushing WP7 at every stand to be successful, but their attitude towards the platform was shocking as if they dont care about it or just want to leave Nokia to do everything, etc.

Personally the 800 is some what of a step down from the N9, Lose of NFC, drop from 64gb to 16gb, 1gb ram, and biggest of all for me the lose of the notifcation led.

And no front facing camera for Skype which is pretty shocking for a 2011 phone! The N9 had one. Not sure why they didnt just keep the hardware and slap on WP7 as it would have been loads better and received much more favorable reviews due to the extra features that it is now missing.

Looks like i'm best waiting for WP8 then.
And the fact Nokia is doing badly doesn't matter to me as there are other companies making windows phones as well. Nokia has been up **** creek for years now.

This is what I',m planning to do, my s2 and 4s is good to go for a year atleast. Waiting to see what the iPhone 5 brings and wp8.

I bought a Lumia off eBay a few months ago. Kept it a few days, but Android is just so far ahead of WP7 for what I want I sold it on.

For many Nokia are Windows Phones. All the other companies just do WP on the side with Android as the main focus. If Nokia goes under (by that I mean gets bailed out by Microsoft/sold/etc.) it sends a HUGE message to developers that this platform isn't worth putting resources into. Not that many are at the moment anyway.

And that's the main problem. Apps. Not that I care about them but Draw Something, Angry Birds Space & Instagram aren't available for WP. That's enough to put off the vast majority of people. The core of Facebook is well supported (with OS integration) but the app is awful and the mobile touch website doesn't work properly in IE. Official Twitter app sucks. Skype sucks. I could keep going on.

My Lumia 710 is good. The OS is good. The apps though are severely lacking and for most a smartphone is about the apps.

I disagree with the point about the apps sucking. Yes, there aren't as many, but all the main ones are there. I love the unified interface for apps. This is the first time I've properly got into Twitter on my WP7. Skype doesn't suck for me - it actually feels lightweight compared to the Android version.

I jumped ship from Android to WP7 and can't believe how good it is. It's an amazing OS, and feels smoother and faster on my single core than Android did on my dual core. I love the facebook/linkedin/twitter integration. I love the unified user interface compared to Android's approach. Hands down the best OS i've used on a phone, shame that the smartphone market is saturated so it's going to be next to impossible for WP to gain a grounding.

I'm not sure what others think, but I think that Nokia should have continued with Symbian. My two Sony-Ericsson P series (P910i and P990i) were capable of apps. Some were at cost like 'Worms' game from the Orange store and other apps were free off web sites such as Solitaire. This goes as far back as 2005 and the P910i and P990i were both touch-screen. My next phone after the two P series was an LG Viewty, again Symbian. It got to the point where there were quite a few apps going for Symbian and the interface especially on the Viewty was pretty damn close to Android. So I'm not sure why Symbian failed as an OS?
