Got a Ryobi RCS4040CA 40cc saw here, and the engine will gradually die about 10 seconds into the cut. The chain just keeps getting progressively slower.

Any ideas why this is happening? It's only been used for about 3 hours from new (yes there is enough fuel).

I thought it might be the chain brake engaging somehow, but it still happens even when pulling back on the lever.

use 90% nitromethane fuel. It gets drag racers down a quarter mile pretty fast so should rev your chain saw up nicely :)

Make sure that the chain is VERY well oiled all the time (there is usually an oil reservoir and a trigger to spray oil onto it) and make sure that the blade is sharp.

If you have had recent zombie problems the blood can clot up in jelly like clumps and block the air filter, whip the foam out, wash it in washing up liquid and water, squeeze dry in paper/tissue then just put a few dots of fresh 2-stroke on it and squeeze out on tissue again to coat foam and catch that nasty dust. Other than zombie blood saw dust and general dust can clog up the foam and kill the engine as it cant breathe.
