Hello all. I too have read of dozens of problems people are having in attempting to run 4gigs, mainly on the Asus forums, it has been an ongoing issue for some time. Some report terribly slow system performance due to the memory "overlapping" with other devices, whilst others say their system becomes unstable.
I myself am fortunate.....thus far...
On a Striker Extreme, I am running 4 gigs of Corsair 6400c3 (the older version of the dominator - without the fancy heatsinks) at 800mhz with timings of 3-4-3-9 2T (as specified) and a voltage of 2.3v, I had to up this from the default of 2.2v otherwise the system would not resume from s3 properly. All the timings are set manually in the BIOS as the EPP function incorrectly sets to 1T - not the official spec - and instabilities arise. I should mention that this memory does appear on Asus's now infamous QVL.
I have thrown a large number of stress tests at this setup. Including 2x sp2004 (Blend and Large FFT simultainously) along with the RTHDRIBL rendering demo for over 17 hours without a crash or error. Also completed multiple passes in memtest 1.65+.
Games I've tried include Oblivion, COD2, FEAR, Farcry, Gothic 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2. None has so far thrown a wobbler!
The only board I've tested that has been able to run 4gigs at CAS 3 and 1T is the Badaxe 2.
To those who want to or are trying to run 4gigs, be sure to check your voltages very carefully, the BIOS will almost certainly default to a lower voltage than the mem's official spec and this may need to be higher still if all 4 banks are populated.
