Hi,

Just wondering if anybody does the above? Have always run linux on PC's/Servers but never on Apple kit.
I'm slightly concerned about fan control when using linux instead of OS X as I've read mixed reports about how cooling is controlled on Macs.

Any thoughts about the cooling or general info would be appreciated.

Cheers,

David

My colleague had Gentoo on his macbook pro for a while, but went back to OSX as the two are not completely disalike to start with.

Not a macbook, but I've debian running on a minimac (PPC) and the temps are fine.
If it does anything to stress the CPU then the fan speed is taken up a notch, which is quite noticeable to the ear...

Got Gentoo 2008.0 beta2 here on my macbook pro dual boot with OS X 10.5.3 using refit as a boot option.

It runs great, got a nice optimized kernel, using madwifi for the Atheros wifi card and using the nvidia drivers form the official nvidia site.

I say go for it :)

I might have to give it a go. I used Gentoo for a couple of years on and off, I loved the control you had. Something which could useful on the mac hardware.

Any problems with graphics/acceleration on PPC macs under linux?

seing as mac is "supposedly" a *nix distro it will be very similar to linux (its actually bsd based but with a price tag slapped on) and the chances are that if there is a problem with linux on macbooks not controlling the fans there will be a fix out there. thats why i love linux
