I'm pretty sure they dont get charged by the DOT for each test they carry out?

That's what my local told me, known him for well ever, so don't see why he would lie.
On the new computer systems, every time they log a new test they get charged.

Not a clue how they do it then.. I pass a lot of trade through them (or at least i did when i was fully mobile) so maybe they take the hit to keep me coming back to them. They're far from the cheapest in town so they might have space in the budget.

Use of the MOT database? (the fact it's not optional is the joy of the system :))

Yep. The start and finish times are logged into the system and everything is done in real time. The car therefore has to be in the bay for the full test time Apparently there can be a VOSA guy round the cornerwith a laptop who then comes thundering round to recheck the car...

So much for my 5 minute MOTs :(

When half the page is low aiming headlights and blown bulbs, i think not ;)

This would be why some of my retests consist of lots of waiting around for my certificate while another tester does a different car.

Apparently some cars are that rusty that the regulation hammer for tapping the car to check fro rust actually goes straight through the floor, without hitting any harder than usual.

Usually a really Shiny Nova with an expensive radio.

I love the idea that if you car has a few problems you should just chuck it! My old mini regularly used to have a list of faults as long as your arm which we'd fix up and then take it back. Some cars are worth fixing!

Well it finally stopped raining long enough to get a look at the failure.

It's the size of my thumbnail.

Not quite a terminal as it sounded

Ah, they've listed it as an "unsatisfactory modification" because it looks like it might have been drilled at some point.

you can see from the paint around it that finding good metal o weld on will be a much bigger patch.

we have gone to repair holes like that and have ended up needing new sills as the paintwork was the only thing holding the metal in place.

They have to buy 'slots' for testing in advance...if they run out, they can't do any mot's...
:)

Nah, these are naturally occuring. Everything on my SJ is naturally occuring, i've found moss growing in the back bumper and today i noticed a couple of blades of grass sprouting from my heater air inlet.

ARGH!!!!

Sodding weather! i've had one usable dry day since the test and now it just won't stop raining! I can make templates for the holes and cut patches to fit, i'm just a bit cautious about dragging the grinder and welder out into the raging deluge that never quite lets up.

bum :(

Ah, so you're a member of the green party then?

The moss in the bumper sounds like a good idea, especially for cars that normally have foam behind the plastic bumper...
