hey guys,

just looked into AMD's HD3D and it loos impressive, but how dose it perform in games?

is it worth looking into and how dose it stand against nvidias 3D surround?

Me and loving it.:D

Just thought I would drop this in here:

What has surprised me the most, is the fact that Tridef just 'works', after all the bad things said in the graphics section of the forum regarding AMD's implementation of 3D, take into account I'm using CrossFire too with no hassles as mentioned in various threads over there(I'm assuming Tridef sorted out the CrossFire problems).

£166(after cashback and assuming you get a good one) for a 120Hz 3D monitor using AMD gpu's is amazing value compared to swapping to the green team and investing in Nvidia 3D surround and being tied to it. :D

There is a laser sight available via Tridef hotkeys(keypad arrow keys and no.5) for those finding it hard to aim.

All games launched via Tridef game launcher unless stated.

BF3(not launched via tridef, 3D applied directly within the game), very disappointing, thought it would be much, much better, especially compared with the effects on other titles, quite a performance hit too!

L4D2, incredible 3D effect, the best use of 3D of all the games I tried, imo the overall depth, looking into the distance is incredible.

Skyrim, stunning 2nd best looking title for me absolutely fantastic.

Deuss Ex(not launched via tridef, 3D applied directly within the game), it's ok, but nothing special.

BAC, fantastic, not much of a performance hit and Bats looks incredible when you pan the camera around him it has to be seen to take it in.

Dead Space 2, fantastic.

Bulletstorm, very immersive.

ME3, good looking and lots of depth.

F3 NV, great looking.

Dirt 3, (not launched via tridef, 3D applied directly within the game) disappointing as I heard it was very impressive, maybe expected too much.

Portal 2, looks great but I was getting a huge performance hit.

Crysis 2, fantastic, not much of a hit.

Crysis, sore on the senses, it looks great, but I was getting a shimmering effect, maybe have to play about with the settings and there is a considerable performance hit too.

The bad bits:

Brain strain was quite pronounced when I first started using the 3D, but last night it wasn't anywhere near as bad, maybe because I was just playing a game instead of testing(jumping back and forth between titles in 3D to desktop and back again), etc.

EA games are looking to get authorised when launching directly from Origin(probably without Origin too) via Tridef game launcher, not good as it's going to take activations away from you, could cause problems further down the line.

After installing the latest Tridef(on another W7 installation) without the Samsung license(pointed out in an earlier post how to do it), you get the full use, including the media player(whether it's a bug or Samsung don't supply this part of the license I don't know) but the only thing your missing is the Yabazam 3D Movies 3D movies from the site(as you can use VLC, media player etc to watch converted 2D>3D movies).

There are a bucket load more games I've played and on the whole I highly recommend 3D gaming, however I'm using a Sammy 120hz active 3D screen 60+60fps@1080p, a passive screen will only give out 30+30fps@1080p.

There are a few titles that won't scale well on your 6990 so you would have to manually switch off CrossFire in the CCC, but you disable AA for 3D anyway.

As above 3D is very underrated on AMD while some prefer Nvidia 3D, some Nvidia users prefer the effects of Tridef, it boils down to personal preference and how much you want to spend.

The Sammy's have a similar tech to light boost that's a feature on 3D vision 2 so it's not as dark as other passive setups.

:)

i may pick up a 3D monitor up and give it ago.

how much dose 3D effect fps in games? and will my 6990 be up for the job with the newer titles such as BF3,witch 2 etc..

also do you have to pay for Tridef or is it free?

If possible give it a go unless you can get a good deal on a 120Hz panel as it's not as 'sore' on the pocket if you don't like 3D gaming, your'e still getting use from 120Hz.

It varies from title to title, with Tridef, if it's hard hitting on fps, you can change to Power 3D and the hit is nowhere near as bad, it's almost as good but leaves a little shimmer round your guy if it's a third person shooter.

and will my 6990 be up for the job with the newer titles such as BF3,witch 2 etc..

I was using 6950>70 before I jumped to 79's, on the whole only Warhammer Marines and Alan Wake(Nightmare was ok though:confused:) needed CrossFire disabled as performance was better on single gpu mode.

On the whole unreal engines are fine in CrossFire too.

The ingame BF3 3D option isn't sore on the fps, but Tridef's 3D far surpasses the ingame 3D in this title, but there is a bigger hit on fps-you don't want to play online in 3D in any fps as you will take a tanking(pardon the pun)! :)

W2 isn't too bad either as I said before you turn off all AA for 3D gaming as a rule or it looks very blurry.

Do you know what your doing with your 6990 and is it performing as it should or do you struggle with CrossFire?
^not meaning to be cheeky here but some can't get to grips with CrossFire.

also do you have to pay for Tridef or is it free?

If you get a Sammy it comes bundled in the box, some LG's it's bundled too, but they are passive so they aren't as good and are darker than the Sammy's.

Best of all in regards to Tridef, your not tied to AMD/Nvidia, it's available to both vendors-albeit only on side by side on Nvidia as nvidia won't allow Frame Sequential unless you go 3D vision.

This might change with the advent of W8 where 3D is native to the OS.

I tried it with my sammy 750d....gave me a splitting headache after 5 mins.
Well i tried Tridef, thought it was the same thing?

Good thing i bought my monitors for 120hz :D

Ive only had it a couple of weeks as i went form a gtx480, i dont have a clue what im doing in the CCC.
It playes everything i have on max easy at 1080p, just waiting for drivers for AC3 tho

I play Skyrim and Arkham City at 720p on my projector some times and the FPS does take a bit of a whallop but you can offset that by disabling AA if you so wish, I don't notice the jagglies so much in 3D.

By doing that my FPS is back right up to where it should be, nice and smooth. A little tweaking and compromise, if you don't mind that.

Both above games look awesome in 3D btw! :D
