Hi guys.

I have recently upgraded my stereo head unit in my Subaru. The stock headunit was single disc CD with no mp3 data playback and even had a cassette deck (what are you doing Subaru!!!!). Anyway I bought a new head unit back in October. I finally got round to fitting it this weekend just gone. Anyway all was good. I improved my audio output quality, the stock headunit amp was terrible. I was considering new speakers in my car, but the new Pioneer amp in the headunit is much better and makes my speaker sound twice as good as before, so I'm not going to bother now.

Anyway I got a USB drive and copied over some music and all good plays brilliantly on my headunit, however one niggly problem was that the USB pen sticks out the front of my headunit about an inch or so. It just looks terrible. So I got into OcUK this morning and had a look at what USB storage pens we had that would look good plugged in the front of my headunit. I came across the Patriot AutoBahn drives. So I bought one :)

Anyone after a USB pen for the car - I would 100% recommend these.

Here it is on my desk, compared to a 50pence coin :)

The write speeds are not the best but for the price it's not the end of the world, and to be honest 16GB of music I doubt I will need to put any more stuff on soon. (Maybe 1 album every month or two - as and when I buy them)

I am going out in a short while so I will plug it into my headunit and show you a photo of the footprint that sticks out the headunit itself.

All in all I'm very happy with it.

coincidental name? :p

Well when I bought one, I got one of our warehouse lackies to bring me one up to the office and the packaging says something like "ideal for any car with a USB input"

So Patriot are marketing for this I think too.

I would also like to point out I am not the buyer for USB flash products, that would be Andrew Moore. I am not posting this to gain sales etc, but to inform anyone who uses USB pens that these are great, I despise big USB pens sticking out the front of head units.

My last headunit was also USB and pioneer, but had a rear port which I ran a cable into my glove box, but when the amp blew on it, I ended up buying a pioneer with a DAB radio, and there were no rear USB port ones at the time, and the unit I bought was £300 down to £130 at Halfords, so it was rude not too :)

Will have to order me one, will be perfect for running FreeNAS on my home server, saves having a full sized flash drive sticking out the back

Here are the pics from my car (the flash has picked up the fact my car needs polishing and dusting inside :)

Also you may note the blanking plate for the lower half of the double din OEM headunit I bought was the wrong size lol. Correct one on order. Be here tomorrow hopefully.

nice ace, found this out myself few months back in my scooby too! those sticks look nicer than the one i got, if you do upgrade speakers make sure you get correct fitting kit! i found using the adapters for a bmw mini fit perfect.

I was surprised that the OEM unit when I removed it was made by Kenwood adbp1, clearly a low end Kenwood - my speakers almost sound like they have been replaced.

When I upgraded my headunit (to a pioneer) in my older Impreza (Bugeye) the stock speakers were still pants, so I upgraded them, but when I did that same in my Hawkeye, surprisingly better speakers with a decent amp'd unit.

P.S. I made my own adapters from plywood on my old car. Thats hardcore!

mine came with no head unit in my classic, stuck a alpine unit with matching speakers as old were paper things! did think about making from wood but then thought i cant be bothered!

what are the read/write speeds on those sticks btw

We have a usb port in our stereo, never used it, I just make data cd's then again I've ran out of scratch proof Tuff CD's, and the 40 or so discs is filling up my glove box.
