Don't really see it mentioned much on here so wondered if anybody works with any of the bigger ERP systems (Dynamics/SAP/Oracle)?

I got into IT as a trainee functional consultant a couple of years back and it was the best thing I ever did.

Anybody else do the same? There is such a huge shortage of good people in the pool and it doesn't seem to make much sense considering there are no formal qualifications required and the fact its pays relatively well.

I work for a implementation partner and we are constantly having to look abroad for resources.

my first job straight out of uni was working for an ERP provider on the reporting side of their own bespoke package and Dynamics AX.
I'm not directly involved with them as such anymore but my current BI roles mean I do need a general understanding of how they hold and deal with data and the processes within them.

Ah cool, I work with Dynamics AX as a Retail consultant now and thinking about future proofing myself by getting into the BI side of things. I've touched on Power BI a little with some standard sales/loss prevention reports for the retail teams but very interested in getting much more involved with that side of things.

I got into PeopleSoft 16 years ago and am still in it. Every major corporation has HR and Finance ERPs of some kind although market has shifted away from the big in-house installs to cloud SaaS or IaaS offerings.

I have worked with ERP systems since my placement year at university. I have been working as an AX developer since 2012. I had an IT background prior to going to uni, but when I started to work with ERP systems it just clicked for me. Specialising in ERP has helped me so much - the business relies on it and having many years expeience of various systems means I am valued by the business. As my MD once said "It's like you're IT, but more useful".

I work with SAP WM (warehouse management) and I agree with you - it's very difficult to find decent SAP consultants at the moment. We get emails and calls from headhunters almost every day about perm and contract jobs.

I've been involved with SAP for about 4 years now, moved into it from a Windows / Linux admin background, but have been concentrating purely in HANA. It's certainly been enjoyable speccing up, building, and installing the chunky servers it gets installed on! Certainly been a good career move for me.
