Oh yeah, and if you think modern architecture is dull...

Fashion Architecture Taste. This is all affordable housing. Whilst it might not be to your taste, it just goes to show, council tenants don't have to be banged up in grotty blocks, we can do better. When people take pride in their surroundings then all problems disappear.

Can you build a more energy efficient skyscraper at that height and size? :p

I'd give it a shot;) Google Ken Yeang, he's designed and written about a lot of green skyscraper ideas which will shape what is designed in the future.

Basically, skyscrapers aren't sustainable. Regardless of how funky it looks, and how many magazines you get published in, a vertical greenhouse is not the solution to climate change!

However, I'm not against them. The gherkin in theory is a pretty low carbon building to run and it's got loads of sustainable mechanisms in it, but it never works like that. It's a beautiful machine, and a testimony to what humans can achieve, and it's a shame to think that in the near future, structures like this might not be possible with climate legislation.

It's really not. Just think about the amount of energy required to produce all that glass and steel.
Give me a weight and I'll work it out :)

Edit: actually, don't. Can't be bothered. Just google up the embodied energy of steel and glass :)

35MJ each approx.

Don't know if any has mentioned frank lloyd wright...

ahead of his time design wise, think one of the dates to 1900.

A building isn't a good building unless you feel neither to hot or too cold ha

Check out this guy though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Lloyd_Wright

Impressive he designed them almost a century ago.

About 20 posts above yours.

I like some modern architecture but find a fairly significant proportion ugly, generally speaking I'm in favour of designs that are in "synergy" with their surroundings and a number of modern buildings are too visually jarring for my tastes.

I quite like the idea of houses built into the earth and this means they should have good thermal properties as well.

I used to watch grand design a lot and there were some awesome buildings in there but most of the time they had to spend a lot £££ to get good end result. Also you need to be very organized and have everything clutter free to have the lol factor inside.

Some of them are nice (first one I don't like) but for the most part I prefer old architecture. Victorian era architecture was good and gothic architecture is just spectacular in the detail and design. I like castles and stuff too but nowadays you mostly get functional and slanted with an attempt at a sleak but more difficult shape to do than that kind of stuff.

I want a castle house so boo to all the crappy modern builders who won't make a castle lol :p
