Just order the T-shirt and then print out the logo and put it in an envelope and give it to her at Christmas instead.

It has blurry edges. Why not do it in Photoshop or Illustrator. Make it nice clean and sharp but scaleable...

Hooray for intellectual property theft \o/

Technically, you're probably right, but then being realistic here these guys are hardly intellectuals. From a quick google they are three grown men who upload videos of themselves with an aim to entice small children to do weird "challenges".

No probably about it.

I used to do event photography and getting your work ripped off is a big problem.

I've had my photographs ripped off too, that's why I don't have a website any more believe me I feel the pain, but that's different to a little girl making a fan t-shirt of her favourite YouTube channel. OP's daughter isn't selling pirate copies of their youtube videos now is she?

My nephew does a lot of arts and crafts stuff with logos, we made something with car logos the other day, I don't think there's any problem here. It's no different to a little girl drawing a logo on a t-shirt.

If a small child loved one of your photos so much that they printed it out and stuck it on their wall, would you really go seeking royalty payments from the child? (even though this isn't about an actual photographic/videographic material)

Yeah don't want to be the Olympics committee and force people to take down sausages and pans laid out like Olympic rings.

No its no different. Pirating the YouTube videos or ripping off their merchandise it's still ip theft.

I hate the way it's so blasé, oh well everyone's doing it.. Especially if it's a reasonable size enterprise. Hell they can afford it right..

Meanwhile the creator is losing money. I'd bet most people wouldn't accept 10-20%* of their paycheck just being wiped off just because someone else would be willing to do the work for free.

Fwiw VAG are very anal about their ip. A few years ago VW had a massive crack down on people using the camper van image and subsequently rejected any retrospective licencing applications. I don't think they'd honestly go after a child for making their own toys as long as they weren't selling them on.

*complete finger in air number. But I can say that for every 10 sales there were maybe 5 people who'd appear on the events we covered Facebook page with our massively watermarked photos as their profile. Facebook were always very good at taking them down to be fair but that normally resulted in the person changing or blocking their privacy so they probably just re-screengrabbed them. Not like they were expensive either, we did social media downloads for £2.

I would have bought the original, (better quality etc) but by the time my daughter asked for the shirt it's eta was Jan 17 ie after Xmas.

Therefore here helped me acquire the image and i chose from a list of thousands of EBay sellers to have the shirt made up which arrived in time for Xmas.

I'm not saying it is right, but i'm not going to lose sleep over it either - thanks again.
