Its just nice when a 3 1/2 hr journey takes 2 1/2 hours i guess.

the trip i was making on sunday (on german autobahns) was from birmingheim (a german place) to home.

150 miles in 2 hours :S google maps recons 2 hours 55 (excluding channel crossing, OBV)

Its only 30mph more than the speed limit, can those cars go for more than say 5 hours without fueling (citation) @ 70mph? Of course they can.

You'd be hard pushed to burn more than a dozon gallon of fuel in two and a half hours in an average car.

it's dependent on a lot of variables, I can certainly see ok mpg at those sorts of speeds.

You can also do 100mph and be very throttle heavy, or not etc.
 
Wouldn't catch me doing 98mph, never mind for a sustained period, its not achievable anyway due to the level of traffic 95% of the time on the M6!

85 max for a short time, 75-80 the rest of the way.

The merc will manage 20+mpg at 100mph, so yeah it would still have a range of more than 250miles at that speed. And thats in an uneconomical car.

the speed limit is 70mph. this is an AVERAGE of 100 for 2.5 hours so to keep that average up youll need to be doing well beyond 100 to make up for all the times you get held up by morons in the wrong lane
