Me and my girlfriend are thinking of going there this July and was wondering how expensive it is to eat out there.

Wanting to go bed and breakfast as we tend to always eat out with halfboard etc as the hotels generally put out loads of British food for its guests.

Like to sample the local cuisine when I go to another country. If I wanted chips I'd stay where I am.:p

I went there 3 years ago now - it's not actually THAT expensive to eat out there, but it's considered a slightly more upmarket destination than the Spanish beaches etc, and prices reflect that.

I was just about to post a thread titled 'Anyone been to Madeira?' and found exactly the same.

GuruJockStrap did you go in the end?

Anyone else got any thoughts on it? Are the beaches nice? Sandy or pebble? Much to do and see?

Cheers :)

I went there a while back. It is worth it just to go there for the landing, one of the most exciting in the world.

I don't think there are beaches there as such since it is volcanic ( i think) so if you swim a few meters out, there are literally thousands of meters of water below you, quite an exciting but scary thought :p

i think it has been taken over by a lot of charter companies so the quality of the island may have degraded.
