Anyone bought a Dell laptop recently with OS or with 64 bit?

Hi,
I contacted Dell today through their Sales Web Chat service to ask for an XPS without an OS. They said "no can do". I then asked if they can give me 64bit Vista instead of the 32 bit Vista offered on the website as I know the USA folks have this option. They said "no can do". I said "well can you give me a big discount then so I can buy another OS myself and install it?". They said "no can do" :D. They also said "the internet price is the best price we can offer". So I said "no can do" ;).

PS I`m not joking about the "no can do". They didn`t say those exact words but the person I was chatting to via the web did seem to give nearly the same answer to all of my questoins

has anyone else successfully managed to do any of the above through Dell? I`m sure I read somewhere recently that they will sell without OS`s installed if required like that. Maybe I`m better off calling them......

Riniging them is the best way to get discount as its harder for them to say no becuasee they could loose a potential customer, just say something like well this Rock laptop has better specs for less money etc etc.

They refused to ship me a 64 bit copy of Vista when I got my M1730, I did some research before hand and the 8800m GTX's in there didn't have 64 bit drivers. First thing I did was to reinstall the laptop with my 64 bit copy of Vista using the key on the laptop, then got newer/modded drivers.

Ah, I have Vista 64 installed on a Dell desktop, sounds like I should be able to use the 64bit installation DVD I have to install on a Laptop as long as I use the Vista code labelled on the Laptop.

Cools, thanks
