Been thinking about changing my name for a while now, was just wondering how simple the process is and also,

Has anyone on here done it?
Why did you do it?
Anyone think it's silly to change the name you was given?

I'm not really thinking of anything silly, it's a typical English name that I'd like but not one that I won't to disclose atm.

Personally I've never really been a fan of my real name, 'Robert', I not going to change it atm, I am only considering doing this if I move away (which I'm considering atm) as I think changing my name in my current surroundings could be problematic as people have obviously known me as 'Robert' for years and I think it would feel strange to them to call me by another name.

It seems like a big headache to me, having to inform all the relevant organisations (banks, DVLA, passport...) that you've changed your name.

You gonna be called Sharon? Is this an undercover pre-op shenanigans thread?

lol, no but tbh I did suspect that a least a member or two may think that, but alas that is not the case, but it is a unisex name but typically a boys name rather than a girls.

Robert/Bob is such a good name though.

My old friends used to call me Bobby :(

Best name story I've ever heard of (obv. other than BENJAMIN HERBLE) is Leon's. Guy wanting to buy a holiday known purely as Tank. No first/last name, just Tank.

I was Mathew, officially I still am, but I'm known pretty much everywhere as Mat. Family, work, etc.

Not me or any of my close friends but my G/F's cousin got paid $1000 to change his name to Chev Chellios in some promotional campaign for when Crank 2 was released.

He kept the name for a year and cashed his $1000 (this was in UK). He's now back to how he was I believe.

What's wrong with Robert?

Can imagine it'd be a pain to have everything changed to another name that'd need changing.
Friends and family forever calling you the 'wrong' name would be a pain too :p

Yeah that is basically the same for me I'm known as Mattey near enough everywhere apart from officially. It just gets annoying being used to writing/typing Mattey & then doing it on a application form or something heh.

Max Power is a good name ;)

I was originally called Joseph but my parents changed it to Daniel when they registered my birth so my little hospital bracelet has a different name on it. Either that or they are lying and brought a different baby home, I've always been suspicious :D

You don't really need to do it officially, just start using a different name. As long as you aren't doing it for fraudelant reasons it is perfectly legal.

I don't really speak to my Family much tbh and as I said I'm only really considering this if I move away from my current location, I'm thinking fresh start and new name, one that I've always wanted, the only real hassle I guess is like some have already stated is my banking/passport/license etc

I'm just wondering if anyone that has done it and have regretted it, also how they felt with their new name.

Yes, I did it when I got married and changed my surname. It's very straight forward.

Are you going for something a bit unusual?

No, nothing unusual, typical English name as I said.

So you also change your first name?, why?
