Anyone confirm a L8NC graph interpretation for me?

This.

There would have been no traffic on the line other than "chatter" as the office was empty on Sunday and the router isn't activated on our firewall (so no outbound traffic would have been routed down it).

What the heck causes spikes like that? Line fault?

The router is a SpeedTouch 510 v6 and the line stats are:

Uptime: 5 days, 2:17:13
Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 256 / 5,280
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.5 / 41.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 9.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / P
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 2 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 69,099 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 90 / 8,248
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 20 / 4,738

ISP is Eclipse.

Thanks,

Chris.

seem's like a fault to me, your upstream is only 256 for starters, I take it you are on the MAX product?

you also seem to have a really low upstream SNR, call eclipse they will report it to BT as a fault, is it connected directly in the master socket?

Oo, I hadn't noticed the 256 upstream.

Yes, it's a Max connection but due to the nature of the site we're on, the wiring is, erm, special  :D

There's no other extensions, it's just some, erm, interesting wiring needed due to a landlord that isn't very helpfull...

Unless you live in the exchange, you will always have a low SNR on Max. 6db is considered the minimum for a stable connection, the sync speed will keep dropping down from 8mb to whatever speeds gives around 6db.

Try a new RJ11 lead between the router and the line, and a different microfilter - I found these made a significant difference on my Speedtouch 510. It also didn't like being plugged straight into the line with no filter, even though there was nothing else on the line.

Next, get your ISP to reset your BRAS profile (might be easier said than done with Eclipse though) and the line will find its optimum speed over the next few days. I had a similar problem where my speeds dropped to 256/3000 when they normally ran 448/6400, after the reset it went back to normal.

hi chri5

how can you disabled ICMP (ping) so L8NC can ping your router?

i've got speedtouch 716WL, i cannot get the L8NC ping my router, on their website said if they cant "hear" my router for 5 mins then it will disable the testing.

the router firewall is disabled but still cant get it working, there is no option to disable the Intrusion Detection. i've also tested by grc shields up and showed that they cant ping my router

so how can i disable the ping blocker thingy in my router?

thanks
