Anyone deal with Optiplex desktops?

I've noticed that a few of the Optiplex machines I've had to look at recently have had non-standard motherboard power connectors.

The 24 pin connector has been slimmed down and is now black. The AUX +12V connector is still the normal white 4 pin affair.

Are these new connectors limited to Dell, or are other manufacturers also using them? Has anyone ever seen a convertor that’d allow a standard PSU to be used?

I would have posted this in general hardware but I thought people here would be more likely to be dealing with this type of PC.

We use them exclusively, they all have the non standard PSU connector you've seen, I think it’s just a Dell thing...

I haven’t seen any converters out there, however try a Google!

We're using them now for shipping to clients, to be honest, they come with 3yrs NBD support as standard and after 3 years who'd still be using one?

Lots of companies, especially SMBs IMHO in this day and age. They expect to get 4 to 5 years of out of desktops.

This is true, but also why Dell will do a maximum 5yr warranty on all of their hardware

We have had plenty of clients running desktops, laptops and servers for 5yrs and beyond

A lot of Dell stuff is non standard. I've seen converters from some models for the PSU mobo connection but even then I've seen the shape/size of the PSU can be non standard!

They've relaxed this policy on their server lines.
For PowerEdge 1800 file servers, it's £390 for the 6th year, or £870 for 6 & 7th year.
Haven't had any other clients take up the super-extended warranty offers yet.

It makes sense in some situations, but the client concerned is buying new equipment anyway, they just need more time for migration.
