Anyone here doing the DiDA course for GCSE? Starting it in september got picked for 1st set (top) and the 4 gcse one... any good ?

What should I learn for over the holiday really..

Thanks :)

Well I'm not doing it but we should be getting the software for the course soon though to install. From what I've seen of it though it all looks pretty good. Never heard of the software we've been told to use though, Matchworks or something like that

I'm doing it for the 4 gcse one and its the most boring lesson ever!
Only do it if you love being bored

Well chose it now, I will make it fun somehow :p

What programs are you using etc... what do i need to learn? Over the holidays ill be doing the 4 gcse one too..

excel, word, dreamweaver, flash, powerpoint, fireworks and NOT photoshop :C

no fun can be made from DiDA :(

Thanks

You're already on my MSN mate, I've just not been on it for ages :o Will try and get on at some point though :)

The year at work that we've got doing it at the moment seem to be giving it a pretty good reponse even though they don't have the specialist programs installed yet  :o

I just finished this course at 6th as I had to do a level 2 course for a year to rack up points.

I imagine my course contained a much bigger work than load yours will (My teacher was apointed half-way through the year to teach a GCSE class in a school miles away as the teacher had royally screwed it. He mentioned the workload was much different) but I'll tell you my opinion on the course.

It's a easy course. I achieved a distinction with relative ease (I'd be worried if I could not on a level 2 course). Half my work load was documenting evidence (Yes, as boring as it sounds) like doing annotates, story-boards, user feed-back, all that stuff. Like other courses, if you get your mits on the marking scheme for your unit your laughing (You teacher should give this to you).

You'll use mainly standard office programs like word, access (only once as it goes :)), excel, publisher etc... Thinking about it, I probably used Adobe photoshop the most but don't expect to learn many skills (Ultimately this is in your hands). You'll likely do the basics of layers and some simple editing, that's about it. You will use Macromedia Dreamweaver for about 1 week. Yes, we spent 1 week with it. To get more use out of it I created my E-portfolios using dreamweaver, that's up to you (some people like to make their portfolios using word *shudders*).

The course gets VERY boring towards the end. We created 4 units and it really is the same **** but a different day on unit 3 and 4. Create a piece of work (Takes the least amount of time by far), obtain evidence such as user-feed back (compiling this evidence gets the most annoying. You've done pretty much identical evidence for previous work so it REALLY does start to feel samey) then compile it.

Whatever you do for unit 4; GET A DECENT GROUP. At least 4 people in my group failed the course because they didn't expect the final unit to be so "hard" (Hard is the wrong word. Basically it's a team task so if 1 person from your group doesn't turn up, you ultimately can't move on with the unit)

Dude, you won't need to learn anything over the holidays. There is nothing to it. If you want to pass and you're not a full fledged retard you will pass with relative ease :) I'll upload my unit 4 e-portfolio when I have time so you can see what is required.

Sorry I've rambled loads here and probably didn't answer your question to well. You got any specific questions?

yhack, we didn't bloody get Fireworks or flash  College couldn't afford it  (Edit...I don't think that was it actually, I think the PC's simply couldn't handle them. This course is endorsed by Macromedia I believe so they provide the software for free (Also applies to students I believe)

 but you're allowed .swf

I don't use fireworks and do things in photoshop at home :)

Yep, we do it compulsoraly - we did the course for last year and it is pretty boring tbqfh  . The only good part was to create an 'e-portfolio' and were going to upload work to it, which we haven't. Although we have a rather 'unknowledgeable' to put it politely teacher. One thing after teaching for 20 years is that she does not like using shortcuts crtl c etc, because she forgets them :p . We just sit there ignoring here - while she talks to her computer loool.

Yeah I know :/

would have saved me a lot of time plus I would have have some fun learning how to use those programs, as opposed to using Publisher for example.

I chose to do the DiDA course too and was ment to be doing in Sept. but apprently our school has scrapped it. :(
I think I'm in the same year as sjohal2006.

Yes I belive you are scythe, what did you get in sats?

Got a 7-7-7 with ease :D - Dont worry if you havent got results already you'll do well :)

Thanks very much for the essay above sniffy, upload or send the eportfolios to :

Thinking about it, I'm a little worried about this getting round the net and being re-used. I don't care if people get discovered but I don't want to put my mark in jeopardy.

Perhaps I could do a screen-shot of a section of my review and provide the documents related to the section I've provided. The review is by far the largest section of the e-portfolio (if you want to do it right). It will give you a good idea of what will you can be expected to achieve in each section of a unit as this is where you place all your finished products and supporting evidence. The evidence will consist of things such as; user feed-back, previous version of the product, inital design ideas (How you're going to tackle the task in hand is what I focused on mainly), changes you made due to user feed-back, mind-maps (ties in with inital design ideas), story-boards (ties in with inital design ideas too I guess) and some other things I can't remember off hand :).

Would that be helpful?
