Heyo its me :)

well as i am trying to join the RAF, i thought that to impress them more i would take up some out of college activities, so now on wednesday afternoons ive started to do archery at college :D

We had the first lesson on wednesday, bascially it was just an introduction saying this is how you hold the bow etc, have a few goes. I have signed up for a course, we will be doing long range, short range, in woods etc all over, it sounds brilliant and its really fun so far, once its over i will be a "qualified archer" lol how awsome does that sound!!

After this course we get to pick what we want to do, we can do climbing/canoeing/rifle shooting/skiing or even white water rafting, anything we want (if they can provide it) and i will be qualified in that also!

I was just wondering if anyone had done these activities and what they thought of them? Im really excited

p.s im sorry for spelling mistakes, tired and had a little bit to drink

I done Archery for about a couple of hours on an activity day a few years ago and really enjoyed it, even managed to beat the guy teaching us by the end of the session :D Wish I kept it up really

hehehe ^^

The only thing i didnt like was when i held it wrong, and the bow hit the inside of my left elbow and dam it hurt, i had a huge red mark that was like 4inch by 4 inch, stung quite abit!

I have done climbing/canoeing/rifle shooting/skiing and archery before, skiing was the most enjoyable out of the lot. But between the others its hard to choose, probably rifle shooting or climbing. We used to do archery inside these concrete bays for fives (sort of like squash courts) and the composite bows used to destroy the wall if you missed the target like some people did :p

I've done a bit of archery - started off using a recurve bow when I took a beginners course. Then bought myself a decent compound bow on ebay, along with a 1mx1m target suitable for cp bows for a bit of back garden warrioring :D

oh...and an red-dot scope and some broadheads for when the zombie uprising begins

Did a tiny bit, was pretty good.. but i felt the bow did everything for me when i knew how to hold it and it was about my skill..

I had envisaged Robin Hood stylee bows and splitting arrows at the bullseye..

I did archery for two years then i stopped.

I still have my Bow, its a Merlin Eclipse IIRC, Cost about £500 in total :O

Its a great sport and i love it, i first started shooting a Recurve bow which got stolen from the clubhouse one day :(

Then i borrowed someones Compound bow and was amazed at how good it was, so i bought one :)

I will go back to shooting it again soon when work calms down abit, but the string hitting the arm does indeed suck balls.

Yeah done it a couple of times, thought it was brilliant. Really easy to pick up but hard to master.

Stick with it, qualified archer sounds well impressive.

Been doing archery for a good few years now.
Started with your average recurve bowm but have since been going down the traditional bow route.
Currently using a 110lb tradtional style long bow, hope to get this up to around 140/150 in the next year or two. Damn hard work though lol

Archery is great fun. Our PE teacher did it with us loads of times and I did it on several activity days. I even won a prize for it once! Not bad for a visually impaired person even if I do say so myself :p!

Accoustic shooting is also great fun. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it.

First attempt whilst on holiday :p

Dad then proceeded to get 3 all in the inner bull (2cm by 2cm):o

If you use a bow with counterweights and a wrist strap then you should find it doesn't get you with the string as much. With a bow with no weights and no strap you have to grip the bow to stop it falling when you release and it doesn't naturally drop forwards so the string has a tendency to hit you. What you can do to help is keep your shoulder low, your arm straight and don't lock your elbow. Try and turn your forearm so it is vertical rather than horizontal, just hold the bow at arms length and you'll know what I mean.

You still want to wear a guard anyway because it does do it occasionally when you're tired.

I did it a center parks about 4-5 months ago. Had a right laugh it was really good fun. Obviously i'm not anything to go by but i really enjoyed it.

The term "Under-handed Trick" comes from Archery. It was considered ungentlemanly to raise the arm holding the bow at so high an angle that one would have to lower the aiming point below the arm, hence the term :)

You, got an inside arm trick! (I've done it too and I confirm that it does hurt) :D
