Anyone driven a 911 Turbo/GT3/GT2

Really? Such as?

For every day driving? M-class BMWs, S/RS Audis/ AMG Mercs/ Nissan GT-R/Impreza STi etc etc

I'd rather own an M3/RS4/C63 etc than a standard 911. A 911 would have the edge on a track, perhaps.

I'm sorry did you just say a Subaru Impreza is a better car than a Porsche 911 Carrera?

And a BMW M3? Or an Audi S4?!

I would almost certainly chose an M powered BMW over a Porsche 911 but not under the delusion that it would be a better car because it simply isn't. The 911 is a fantastic car.

It isn't on a track but for every day driving and comfort it is. As stated a standard 911 is a fantastic car but it just doesn't seem to be that special. As a 911 CS owner I wouldn't want someone in an M3 up my rear with ease.

I honestly don't know where you get some of your opinions from. The 911 is a usable, everyday, comfortable sports coupe which drives like very little else available for the same money or less. It is a league about a BMW M3, Audi S4 or whatever other stuff you've plucked out of the back of your Top Trumps deck this week.

And I say that completely impartially - as you all know I'm a BMW fanboy yet I can concede there are better cars than BMW's. And Porsches are better cars.

I cannot understand how anyone can begin to think a rear engined Coupe which will do in excess of 180mph, 0-60 in 4.6 and offer tremendous levels of driver involvement seamlessly blended with the latest in comfort isn't 'special' unless perhaps they had a a Veyron parked at home.

This thread is everything that is wrong with Red Letter days, give a numpty 5 minutes in a car and they are suddenly an expert. :D

scott212 looking silly again. amazing.

other than the 911 odd un special discussion, i have to say... the cayman is a fantastic car

I stated my naivety towards performance cars.

I also stated that in general 911s are perceived as weaker performance cars by non-petrol heads because of their prevalence.

I won't pretend to be an expert but that is simply fact.

Amazing yet again you lot make a meal out of this. Fox your involvement in the thread did not answer my original question or provide constructive response, only lead to another ridiculous manipulative argument.

Fox has a habit of making people look silly. It's utter disbelief that despite stating I'm not the most knowledgeable person on this subject you still wish to throw around insults and act in such a manner. I'll take it with a pinch of salt. Great experience driving the Turbo nonetheless.

A standard 911 is a bloody good car on track

Id say it's a very special car. I've never driven anything with the same feel the 911 gave on track the initial turn in was unreal.

How can I prove that alone? It's a general opinion. Porsches are common, anything that is common psychologically leads to a sense that it is not something special. If you lived in a town where everyone had F430s you wouldn't think much of them despite them being very good cars.

A lesson for the keyboard warriors. Argue with people on your wavelength, educate people who aren't.

now you are saying its general opinion?
If i lived in a town full of F430s i would be smiling all day long every day, i would never get bored of seeing them.

You are talking rubbish fella.

Is it?

You know as well as we do you didnt really have an original question, you added a woolly question to disguise the fact your post was merely a LOOK AT ME I DROVE A PORSCHE I KNOW NOW ALL ABOUT FAST CARS thread.

The funny thing is there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 'woohoo go me I did a driving experience day' thread..

You're right. I was excited to have had a driving experience day hence the thread. Happy now?

I can actually appreciate that you're being fairly nice in your replies, oddly.

Morba, just like winning the lottery that smile wouldn't last long. If everyone drove F430s then it would take something like a Veyron to be perceived as something truly special. Everything else would be the norm. I actually live in Sevenoaks which is an affluent commuting area on the outside of London and mark my words come here on a Saturday afternoon for a pint in town and you will see a car worth at least £50k pass you every minute and that I can promise you. This could be why my perception of 911s is... perhaps in your words, distorted.

The problem with deliberately trying to sound intelligent in internet posts is you end up sounding a bit daft. Just type normally rather than looking for the most profusely eloquent way of phrasing your prose.
