Anyone else considering switching from a 3950X to a 5950x? If so why...

Although i will primarily use my system for gaming with some light video editing, i am mainly upgrading as i want the best of the best as i plan to keep this system for several years.

I like the idea of having the fastest IPC cpu available at this time and will pair it with either a 6800X or a 6900X.

The idea is this machine will see my through the next few years of gaming at the highest image quality settings at 5120x1440.

What’s the rush? My 3900X will possibly get upgraded to 5000 series, but only once prices have dropped. For now it’s fast enough.

if I want to spend money on a new toys I can think of more interesting things than a new CPU.

Reason why I'm going to.... Because I can.

The 3950x will go in my virtual server and I will sell the 3900x in that on MM.

Would like to but would need a new main-board so will give this gen a miss, just too much hassle. The last upgrade from a 1800X to 3900X was nice and easy.

I'll be interested to see what the latency improvements are like first/and reviews generally, though I probably won't upgrade from the 3900X yet...it's the GPU and monitor that need more attention at present. If I do opt for a Zen 3 CPU, though, it'll be the 5950X.

Because very happy with my 3950X its a beast of a chip, sell that and no new chipset i'm good with spending a few hundred net on the upgrade... Single thread improvements look great and i'm potentially going to drop in a 6900XT

My thinking also Smffy, though i may settle for a 6800 XT. We'll see.

I'm waiting for reviews (who am I kidding.....), but will likely upgrade my 3900X to a 5950X, I don't need the cores but can afford it, so why not. Assuming there are no surprises and the 5900X isn't faster in games I'll upgrade within 3-4 months of release, I may even jump to the Crosshair VIII Dark Hero at the same time and switch out the ROG Ryujin with a Artic Freezer 2.

Yes I'm upgrading from 3950x to 5950x for its gaming performance

Same with me....roll in the people "Its a waste if you use the 3950x for gaming only!!!!! Blah, blah, blah!!!" I don't give two hoots as I can afford it. Same reason for me getting the RTX 3090.

Waiting for my manufacture to provide an update for my B450 motherboard, hopefully MSI will.
