Hi there
I have just about had enough of aol now
Today i have spent an hour and a half trying to sort out the slow down in speed i get every evening between 6 and 12.
I'am on the 8meg platinum package but now in the evenings it's down to 512kps.
I spoke to three calls centre's two in india and one in ireland.
The first call technical support told me that i needed to speak to accounts. This guy was based in the irish call centre.I asked him if i was being slowed down by aol and he said no.And that it would show up on my account if i had been flagged. He then told me that it must be a technical problem and he put me through to them.Ten mins later i get to speak to the technical department again to explain my problem to another different person.
She looked at the problem and told me to change the mtu settings and that i would have no more speed problems.
Well 6pm and the same slow 512kps again
So that means i'am only getting the 8meg speed 3/4 of the month and 512kps for the other 1/4
That's not what i pay £29.99 a month for.
Sorry for the rant but can you guys reccomend another isp i have had it with aol.
Thanks

Shouldn't have joined in the first place. The slow down is most likely because of there fair usage policy - i moved because of it.

AOL is the worst company Ive ever experianced - and Im not just talking about broadband providers. Do they still make you dial up every time you want to go on the internet?

Same here, its their traffic shaping/throttling that they've started doing, did you not read the e-mail from em about it, saying the new T&C's with all the shaping etc... was starting Feb 1st.

Thanks for your input.
I have looked as ukfsn site and it looks like a good deal. But how easy is to migrate from aol to another isp?

I sent an email to [email protected] asking for my MAC code, they got back to me within a few days, I then gave the code to Jason and then waited for BT to sort themselves out.

:)

I seem to be having the same problem, on 1meg ~110KB/s normal then ~40KB/s evenings. I was avoiding AOL when I needed to migrate awhile back but after hearing how there were no restrictions I migrated and it's been good until now. The main reason this is annoying is that the speed is slower at the times I actually use the internet.

I'm not sure if I should bother migrating again and to where? migrating to AOL was a nightmare while they were trying to get 2meg out of a line that can only do 1meg

*sigh*

Well up to two months ago i had no problems with aol.The 2meg i started with was fine and when they upgraded to 8meg that was fine.
Now if they said to me on the phone that it was due to the fup i could maybe accept that but to be told that is was not being throttled back and it's obvious that i'am someone's telling porky's.Time to leave the sinking ship before the carphone people take over.
It means i can only play BF2 on the weekends :(
Still it looks like ukfsn is a good bet and a better price to.

How exactly has AOL changed their T&C's anyone ? my mum got the email, but doesnt care about speed and didnt forward it to me who actually pays for the connection
