right now i'm taking waves of them out with various chemicals. we've tried some stupid product we bought that was supposed to poison their colony.

think tommorow i'll be calling some dude to destroy them for me. weren't too bad a week ago but (probably with the weather) they've boomed the past day. i'm now dealing with swarms of the things in one of our rooms.

any suggestions.

I was going to suggest fire as a serious suggestion but as its inside its rather impractical!! :D

Get a piece of cardboard and stick loads of double sided sticky tape on one side, lay it where the ants walk and see if any are daft enough to get stuck to it. Doesnt help with the major colony but could help thin the ranks a bit and stop them spreading.

fellas - fire has actually cross my mind. but... it the satisfaction just wouldn't be worth the cost.

i've used various strong cleaning products we've got, bleaches, my deodarants, this 'ant trap' garbage product we bought.

my girlfriend mentioned that bicarbonate of soda apparently does something to them.

Seriously though, I've heard that the products work really well :\ apparently it's a tasty chemical which they eat and take back to the nest and they ALL eat from it, including new hatchlings.

yup. that's what i tried. i've still got half the sweet stuff left so i'll probably put that down again.

Find the nest and pour about 5 or 6 litres of boiling water down there. The old methods are always the best. Ants will take over the world if you don't do this.

Yeah but it's indoors >_< that's the pants thing. Try just sticking ALL the powder down in one go.

Oh actually yeah for the nest this is the best thing, that's if you can find it.

Didn't realise ants made nests indoors. Ants will come indoors to hunt for food, but if you destroy the queen in the nest the worker/soldiers just die I think.

yeah, i think that's the problem. the queens probably producing at the same rate i can get at them with my stupid approaches right now.

and they are inside somewhere. we're in a flat and the room they are appearing in is just between us and the next place, it's not against a garden or anything.

id start sking the neighbours next door, above and below to see if they are having any problems with them. No point just you attacking them if the problem is in someone elses flat.

Get some ant powder - can get it dirt cheap from eBay. :)

It's the only thing that's worked for me. Just draw lines where you see them trotting about, so they have to walk over it.

For some reason, we have them pretty bad in our area of Darlington. :(

Yes, I have a whole stable of fighting ants, but my prize fighter is undoubtedly Guido El Tormento, who made it to the regional quarterfinals last month despite being only 2 weeks old. He won an invite to the nationals next month, but is unfortunately unable to compete due to a broken mandible. As is the nature of this sport, he will have died of old age by next year's competition season :( Ah well, better luck next brood...

Quality :D

You could try pouring something like golden syrup or honey in a glass and leaving it somewhere. They'll all get attracted to it, and they won't be able to get out because it's so thick and sticky.
