Anyone else find FM2007 really hard?

For me it hasnt been the same since the 2D match engine arrived. In the old text based versions, you were visualising it all in your head , the text was like listening to it on the radio with the same commentary style and the match sounds in the game were spot on. When you scored, and the text was flashing, you really felt you were there.
Now with the 2D screen, it has taken away some of that magic, and watching dots move across the screen just doesnt seem the same.
As someone stated before, it is now too in depth, and isnt a pick up and play type of game, and the enjoyability factor has gone.

Those were the days! I can remember getting far too excited watching those commentaries and jumping round the room when my team scored a late winner! But I haven't played Championship Manager (, or is Football Manager these days!) since sometime around 00/01 as it began to run far too slowly.

Maybe I'll have a nose round the 'bay and see if I can pick up a cheap copy? I'll get the editor running and turn my local team, Aylesbury United, in to third division giants!

Why dont you just not use the 2d option, and play just using the commentary and the sound if you dont like it? I have nothing against the 2d thing, but dont use it, as it makes the match last too long, and thats saying something when I play the game on normal speed anyway.

its not hard.... You just need to adapt tactically. use the attack and defensive bars to suit your formation and players.

won the league with Inter 4 years in a row. Won it 2 years with arsenal.

But the challenge is in getting a lower league team promoted!

I do kinda appreciate what you guys are saying, in that in some ways it's not as fun now that you can't simply sign loads of cracking young talent, bung in an attacking formation and play the same way every match, filling up your trophy cabinent like nobodies business.

However, I also think it's good that SI haven't rested on their laurels, they've always been the market leaders in terms of depth/realism, and they need to stay ahead of the game.

At the end of the day, they've managed to create a game which is no longer ridiculously easy and behaves more like real life in that sense. The best teams don't always win.

I think I tried that, but the commentary bar is small and stays at the bottom ??? I like the old big easy read text in middle of the screen.

Fair point. I am pretty sure I saw a skin on the official SI Games forum that does this, as was requested a lot by fans of the old CM series. If not, I know there are skins that have the bar at the bottom enlarged somewhat.

As for the comment on taking a non league team to the Premiership, that indeed is the aim of the game. If you want something really hard, there is a little team in the Swedish non league that start with no money, and no players.

Try getting them into Europe when you are struggling to put a team together from the very beginning.

SI have done a remarkable job with the series, and each year the improvements made are better and better. I like the fact that if I wanted to play as Barcelona I cannot just walk the league by picking the best 11 players and using a standard tactic.

Thats probably why I have played 10 hours of my Leeds game and have only just started the season. But then again, starting a game with Leeds is asking for trouble anyway.

The game is really all about tactics and learning what all the different sliders do. I spent a fair amount of time on the SI Games forum seeing what other people had success with before using a 4-1-3-2 formation that suits my playing staff the best.

Of course, knowing which free players to get at the start of the game helps too! However, I am still 3rd in League 1 with Bristol City, as Scunthorpe and Blackpool(!) are scoring a simply ridiculous amount of goals compare to the rest of the league. However, I did beat Fulham 5-1 in the FA Cup:)

Anyone know how long it takes for your team to get used to a new formation/tactics? A few months into my first season, I settled on a formation and played it for about a year, doing OK. I then changed things around a bit to try and fit better players in, and it was a disaster! I won like 1 game in 5 matches, stuck with it for a couple of months too which ended up costing me the title in the long run. Did switch back in time to win the CL and FA Cup however.

Speaking of which... absolutely classic semifinal vs Bayern. I was 0-2 down from the first leg, conceded the first goal so due to away goals I then needed FOUR! I had decided to go with a 3-4-3 formation, playing Henry, Klose and Saviola up front. Then after 54mins, Saviola got injured.

Now, picture the scene.... By this stage, I'm 2-1 up needing another two goals. So, I throw on my 7th choice sub, a certain Ronaldo. So far that season, he had made a grand total of 3 sub appearances (no starts) and was generally fairly unhappy with me. But within 3mins he scored, and then a second before Henry wrapped things up to make it 5-1. Amazing comeback!!

edit: lollerskates, Euro2008 has just ended and Italy, England, France, Germany and Portugal have all sacked their managers :)

I gave up on managment games long ago once i found there all the same more or less and matches are totally random that has nothing to do with tactics or ** team.

As above, it's a lot easier to see where you're going wrong using the 2D match engine.

Really finding this hard, I'm middle of the league with stoke and draw way too much. What is worse is I cant sign up to the official forums for player and tactical advice.
