Anyone else getting these links on the forum?

The creator has the copyright, no question, but you seem to be assuming all rights then sit with the creator and none with the publisher. By posting you are implicitly giving OcUK limited rights as the publisher.

It is difficult field to navigate, because the terms and conditions on this site at sign up do not imply any rights for forum owners as the publisher other than that automatic right - those of publishing copyrighted content on pages. The rest was left at our, posters, discretion. Retrospective changes are even more difficult to navigate because even if terms were to change, most of us, registered before few days ago, did not enter into any agreement imposing limitations or right to use of our copyright as no such contract existed at the time.

I think internet would turn into flaming war and turn to dust in days if publisher had self implied rights to advertising on the back of copyrighted material posted by users and/or could change contracts retrospectively. Just image what would happen if facebook tried their "publishing rights" and changed posts on celebrity pages to include advertising of products they were never associated with, or twitter adworded post by new personality or some corporate mogul to make it look like they were endorsing their own competition. And you would expect both companies to come up with idea like that long time ago - they have resource and rooms full of corporate lawyers to find them a way out of it.

I think ignoring all of the above relies too much on nobody challenging it and is too open to abuse. Between old disgruntled employees and long chain of competitors, someone probably eventually would fire "here, they changed my posts and made it look like I said something I didn't"

I hate those generated 2nd posts adverts, they may resolve a certain ideological opposition but they are in no way less obtrusive.

We all sigh at the sight of it. That's because they are mostly done in a very lame way. Second post with a banner. Surely it can be done better. Besides, not a lot of things will look worse than words like "generic" linking to completely unrelated to the conversation gubbins and miscellany?

4 pages of moaning about some hyperlinks, that are;

A. Hardly obtrusive
B. Very rarely appear in anywhere but hardware talk
C. Are possible to turn off

Just delete the thread and allow people to leave.

I don't see what all the fuss is about :/ If you couldn't turn it off, I would understand, but you're complaining about something that has been added that you can remove if you don't like :/ It's a non-issue :p

i think you know why people are moaning about it as a issue

no one signed up to promote ocuk products. words being related to items on sales side being links to peoples postings.

great so you can turn it off but it is still on . so basically its not off and you are ignoring the very people who you want to buy your products.

time for emails

lol, when we start paying to be here we can start dictating how things are ran.

If the owners want to change things, They can. I honestly cant understand the complaints considering the ability to turn it off.

And i cant understand why people would be upset with the fact their posts show up links to others. Its not like we're only discussing the good points of a product, bad things are said about products on here too, and those will also show hotlinks, although less likely to get clicked.

Meh, People will always find a reason to moan. Human nature I suppose.

Just to repeat what dg and many others have said...

It's NOT off, it's just hidden from your viewing everyone else well see perhaps many of your posts as links to adverts. It's the old saying, what you can't see can't hurt you, right?

Oh and we are paying to be here, we are giving them revenue through advertisements using our posts ;)

Here's something else, OCUK don't alow REF links they outright banned them... HOWEVER ocuk has taken over peoples posts with referal links ( certain words ) back to their shop without consent

I have no issue as such. The only thing that concerns me is the amount of 'confusing links' it will give the newbies in the spec me threads in GH. :(

I understand the links are still there, to those who havent turned it off and none members. But why fuss about it. Seems really bizarre

It isn't bizzare , ocuk have a right to edit your post when you have broken a rule totally acceptable. Question for you, at what point would it be enough is enough what's your breaking point?. How about massive adverts and BUY NOW over every post you make, it would bring in great revenue. It's got to stop somewhere!. OCUK make a ton of money through customers, through us yet i advertise ocuk through word of mouth, through reviews and news posting. Are ocuk running out of business do they really need to have these links?

They should have atleast asked us, the people who helped ocuk into what it is today yes management helps but so do the customers

p.s Although ocuk are angry with me because I don't agree with them i has yet have not broken any rules :)
