Had a guy from Everest round to measure up and qoute for 1 front door and 1 bedroom window...

His 1st qoute was £5300 with discounts he got it down to £2321.. now to me this seems hugely high price, but knowing nothing about windows and doors, am i right...

life time warranty and all that. But still, £2300 for 1 door and 1 window....

now ringing around for others just to check, but anyone else had a window and door fitted, how much???

I assume the door is a front door?

PVC doors with decent locks, decent style, and decent glass doesn't ever seem to be cheap.

Is the £2300 broken down into window/door itemisation?

Everest are very good but its not going to be worth getting them out to just do one window and door. Personally i would either get the whole house done (very expensive) and save money on heat and have reasonable sound insulation, or just get any old guy out for a third of the price.

I love the way they create some astronomical price then apply astronomical discounts to give you what, to all intents and purposes is an astronomical final quote. I am not fully equipped with pricing I am afraid but something that ends up with a 50% discount would have been much better as just being quoted with the correct price in the first place.

Material cost for that installation would be no more than £1000. That being a massive overestimate.

Are you happy paying them £1300 to fit?

They are good but expensive, we had solid wood patio doors put in where our rear bay window was 15 + years ago, they are still like new.We paid almost £4K back then
I never trust a DG salesman who offers that kind of discount without any prompting.

Sounds a bit steep to me!

I was recently having problems with my white PVC door handles, and couldnt find a set that were the right size to match up, and several local firms quoted around £400 for a new door.

Thankfully I got the right handle size in the end for £20 - so that made me :D

But £2300 for 1 door and 1 window! Naaah..... he's having a laff

i thought it was over priced, but as i said, never having had doors or windows done, and none of my mates have in the past 10+ years, wasnt sure...

I rang the sales man and said if he can do two windows and front and back door for that, get back to me.. he hasnt yet lol..

IIRC when we had our house done (local firm) a single 8x6 foot picture window only cost about £1500, and when we did the windows for the garage, double windows, about 2.5x5 foot with two openings) they only cost about £250 each from Wickes.

I would suggest talking to some of the local firms, they'll probably give you a realistic quote straight off, without any of this "my managers going to kill me, so i can only offer you this if you take it today, i'll knock 60% off my price, and throw in a holiday to Disney World" rubbish ;)

Times are hard and turnover keeps a business going. You might get a phonecall back yet. He might not be able to feed his kids this month but at least you keep him in work :)

Size? Style? Double, triple glazed? Flat window or bay? Too many variables to say for sure but I would agree that at first look it sounds expensive.

However, my bosses "fake" wood large front door cost him £1500 for the door alone plus somebody to fit it (he bought direct, not through a DG company) so hard to say unless you are mose specific.

But if you look at WIckes (not that I am recommending them as I have no experience of the quality of their doors) front doors range from £300 - £500 and windows from £100 to £225 so about £400 to £725 in materials plus fitting. Everest may be of better quality but worth £1600 more? I very much doubt it.

There are loads of door and window companies who supply the items directly without fitting. Best to search with the net, find a door you like and find a local contractor to quote for installing them. I reckon you will still come in at half the price of Everest.

Front door with furniture and glass fitted for £495 through local upvc company and its absolutely fine, the fitting was impeccable and the door itself is great. The cosy went up sharply with different glass though.

Despite their sales pitch - they aren't that brilliant. Stick to a local reputable company.

Just be sure thatey aren't just about to go belly up. You don't want to be stuck with new doors and windows without any warrantee. Otherwise we'll be seeing you on Watchdog.

Drunk today Huddy? :p:D

When we bought this house, it has Everest Aluminium Double Glazed Windows and Patio Doors. Very good windows. Worth it but that does sound like quite a lot of money.

How can you say they are worth it when you bought the house with them in? What if they had cost £10,000?

I can't remember who did our flat but it was one of the big brand ones. 1 huge double bay window and doors to the balcony, 4 large windows and two small windows came to around £5K.

I'm guessing they'd be the older style without the thermal break. Great windows but pretty poor compared to current windows.

Because they keep the house very warm. However, I forgot to mention that when we had the extension done to our house and for 1 door with window, 7 other windows. They were asking for around the £6k mark. This was over a year ago and the quote was for Aluminium ones.

We just got some normal aluminium ones nothing special, tbh PVC is better then aluminium in my opinion. Just got the flat fitted with them and since it's on a very busy road it does keep the noise out much better. Such a difference when open/closed.

EDIT: Not sure Orange Peel on how new they are. We moved here 5 years ago, and they were installed just before me had bought the house.
