Anyone else had loads of hardware issues with AMD current gen?

I've had 2 7970s. No problems with either one. Honestly I would be thinking it's something you're doing wrong if you're had 5 out of 7 duds. Or you're just incredibly unlucky.

Everyones entitled to their opinion but when your reminded that your opinion is unjustified and incorrect on numerous times, yet you fail to accept it and continue to fight with it. Then be prepared for personal attack

To be fair, even though I don't agree with skodamart's opinion, I would never tell him his opinion is incorrect. After all it is his opinion and he is entitled to think what he likes.
Myself I am allergic to coffee so I say that it is the worlds most evil substance, now feel free to disagree with me and tell me you think I'm wrong but anyone ever tells me I'm not allowed to have that opinion then ill fight them all the way. transpose coffee for a certain religions and you can see why there have been so many wars over the centuries.

Bottom line he is entitled to think what he likes but we don't have to agree with it.

+1

I think the point how I see it is that it isn't really an opinion as such being expressed by him... what he has said may well be underpinned by an opinion but the expression of it is anything but.

I do agree that opinions - if backed up by sound logic - should be let be. The problem here is the logic behind it hence all of the comments following on from it.

By calling it an opinion is kind of sidestepping the point of what has been said.

Chase him out of town with burning torches and pitchforks is probably more accurate.

Forums need both sides of the argument.

Edit: but thanks bru, I agree.

And others just seem to follow the crowd blindly like sheep, all bleating the same tune, and by this I am not referring to a single individual.

I am never going to agree that the current generation of ATi cards is in anyway better than nVidia.

They both have their flaws, and my preference is nVidia.

If his opinion is unfounded and can affect the judgement of people viewing these threads seeking information then it needs to corrected. However his link to the 66oti vs 7950 revisited link was justified he provided evidence.
The thing is despite being told, he still fails to recognise that the pcb manufacturers are seperate to Ati. So its just as much the pcb gpu manufacturers as Ati.

He had a bad experience with 7950s, he knows the reason why he had 2x bad luck. I'm glad his 660ti works well for him, But please stop writing things like this

This is why it narks me when people suggest that ATi is the defacto choice for this gen.

It isn't.

Yes that does seem to be the general consensus of opinion and woe betide anyone who suggests otherwise.

Pitchforks and torches at the ready!

which is why I originally stated be prepared for personal attack. Which from your post above proves that you are out to get a reaction, I will just ignore your comments in future

Following like sheep in your eyes... informed purchasing decisions following the price/performance ratio in other peoples eyes....

They both have their flaws, and my preference is nVidia.

You have a brand preference nothing wrong with that. Try justifying that choice in a more coherent manner and you may find less people are unpicking what you say :). I'm pretty much as neutral as you can get but if two cards were identically performing and the same price... I would go nVidia. Why? Slight brand preference.

But they don't perform identically.

There still seems to be issues with Ati cards in the game I play the most.

World of Tanks.

I dare say that this is just a driver issue/game bug that may be corrected in the 8.2 patch.

Just to clarify,

"This is why it narks me when people suggest that ATi is the defacto choice for this gen.

It isn't"

The above statement means there are good reasons to choose nVidia instead of ATi.

Not 'You are a fool to get anything but nVidia'

Jeez this is hard work... I was talking theoretically.

And you've completely missed the point.

Yes it is hard work.

ATi cards seem to perform poorly in the game I play the most.

I have said this since the start, but you have chosen to ignore it.

ATi = No good to me.

Factor in the high failure rates on top.

I don't feel that MSi has suddenly 'forgot' how to make decent graphics cards, more they have got a bad batch of chips (I suspect memory chips with the flashes I was getting).
You would have expected that these 'bad cards' would have been detected at quality control stage considering the anmount of bad cards there seem to have been.

7970 offers the fastest single core card in the world for a pricepoint that is simply put the best there is.
Its obvious the green envy is then trying to justify the more cash they just handed out for second place, I understand that and lucky the Hobbit is coming out soon so any trolls might be having a sunny day indeed!

never had any issue with my 7970 and at 5040x1050 it runs the games I play superb.
I just find game developers tends to be lazy nowadays due to the power of 7970 exceeds their programming capability.
;)

blah blah blah trolls trolls trolls.

You sir, are the flip side of that coin.

Smug much?

Yes, I paid more, but after wasting a whole lot of money trying a load of 79XX cards.

In the end, the lower cost/performance ratio of the Nvidia was just negligible next to the immense stress that all the 79XX cards have caused me.

No - I just don't really have any interest in it.

This is quite clearly talking generally and theoretically... and you've started talking about World of Tanks. Tangent much??

You're taking it off topic now so I'll leave you be.

Personally I think because AMD are in finacial trouble they are trying to get as much out of ATi as possible, pushing chips that are not 100% stable and I also think that the miraculous 'never settle' drivers is at the expense of frame times.

It will be tragic to see AMD/ATi go bust, as competition is healty, but I suspect desperate measures from a desperate company.

Looks like it's working too, AMD share price:
