Anyone else had loads of hardware issues with AMD current gen?

I still don't know how you can suggest 4x4gb 680's for that resolution, it's utter madness when in all likelihood 3x 7950's will probably perform just as well if not better at that resolution while costing best part of a grand cheaper. Money matters to some people.

Money matters to me too

Multi monitor is not my thing but if I did use that resolution I would make sure the cards/drivers (AMD or nvidia) worked and scaled ok for the games I play.

What I am saying is when using 3 or 4 GPUs the drivers don't always work. If I am using my setup @1600p and the drivers don't work/scale the worst that can happen is I am still on 1 GTX 680 performance which for 1600p is enough. If the same happens @3 x 1440p it would be unfortunate to say the least.

Scaling is hit and miss for both AMD and nVidia from what I can see, and varies from game to game.

Playing 3x1440p on a single gpu is going to be very unfortunate, I totally agree. Scaling aside though, nobody can ignore that even at 3x1080p, the 7950's give far better bang for buck than 680's, and at 3 x 1440p the gap is likely to widen further.

Unless there is a known widespread problem with crossfire/trifire and multiscreen it is very hard to suggest 680's as they perform poorly compared to their AMD counterparts.

I agree that a pair of HD 7950s run better @3 x 1080p and @3 x 1440p even better.

What I am saying is with 3 and 4 GPUs things become more unpredictable and its a case of using whatever is best for your needs. Sometimes the faster cards are let down by the drivers.

It's hard to tell whether it's the card, drivers or GPU Tweak but:

Constantly at the GPU voltage i've set (1313mv)
Memory stays at max set, never down clocks
Memory voltage stays at max set
GPU down clocks to 500MHz but not 300MHz

Which means idle is quite loud.

Memory voltage never clocks down.

GPU core of 500 is used for Eyefinity normally.

That's all i have for you Mr Rossi.

Also, either BF3 Aftermath or the latest Beta drivers are crashing BF3.
2x black screen lockups
1x AMD driver has stopped responding.

I think I am beginning to understand spoffle a little bit now. I think spoffle beef is with the company nVidia and some of the questionable antics they get up to, rather than the cards. Good cards, bad company? I also don't like putting my money in the direction of questionable companies, I boycott nestle for this reason.

Thank you! That's exactly it. I am not blind to the fact that nVidia make good hardware, but for me the hardware that they make is irrelevant when they get up to so much dodgy underhanded stuff that is to the detriment of the gaming industry, and and that is something I don't want my money going to.

People see that I dislike nvidia and assume it's because I like AMD an unhealthy amount which is completely untrue, if I was in love with AMD I'd be buying their processors, which currently I wouldn't touch with a barge pole for high performance. :p

One thing I found the other day when trying mine out in xfire

The fans on one of the cards stayed at 100% even when I wanted to slow it down. I just thought it was me doing something wrong. Is it possible it could have been GPU tweak causing it.

Have you used a GTX 690 ?

I think if one fell into your ownership for free once you have tried it and compared it to say a pair of HD 7970s you would not want to part with it.

I got a 690 GTX earlier in the year, tried it for 2 weeks and returned it.
I got a pair of 7970's a month ago, I have no intention of returning them.

So, I don't think your post is accurate.

I'm a multi monitor user. The 690 didn't provide enough of a boost over my 6950CF setup to justify keeping it at the price. The 7970s have surprised me with the boost I got (around 100% improvement, before overclocking), so I'm more than happy with them.

I'm the same. They make good cards, but their questionable business and marketing tactics make it hard for me to support their business. If a really good deal comes along, I'd consider it (like the 690 I almost kept earlier in the year), but the fact their cards are overpriced more than AMDs makes it easy to stick to my principles. :)

I think I have said it several times in this thread alone, the GTX 690 is not much use for a multi monitor setup. At 1600p or below the GTX 690 is the better option if only because they do not suffer from microstutter, there are other reasons too but I have already stated them. The downside is the GTX 690 is very poor value for money.

I also have a pair of HD 7970s but there is no way I am going to use them in my main rig at 1600p.

A few more:

A lot of the time when the monitors go to "sleep", they don't. The screens go black but they're still on.

Shutdown can take 5 minutes.... for no apparent reason. Never happened with my nVidia GTX580.

Actually tempted to go to a GTX680 tbh. The EVGA Signature Two looks to be a good price.

99% sure this is GPU Tweak. I have had similar issues with mine.
