Anyone else HATE WASD?

I too am part of the nintendo generation - and love WASD. never had an issue with it.
Ive got one of the Belkin gaming pad things and its good; the d-pad might help you.

I have big fat clunking fingers and find WASD really tricky. I always re-map to WASZ, where AS are strafing keys

WASD rules, i remember playin command and conquer or medal of honor on playstation1 and thought it was amazing, played it on a pc and it was 50times better...

Then a few years later tried a newer c&c & new call of dutys etc on the PS2 and thers no going back from pc!

I love WASD, it is my friend, what does make a big difference as to how "natural" it feels is the need for a wrist rest though, if i remove the wrist pad from the front of my keyboard it feels dog, with your wrist resting at the right height your left hand should rest comfortable with your digits on the "Space" "D" "W" "A" "Ctrl" keys, if it feels comfortable you will get used to it quickly, i suspect the fact you have been doing it for so long and still "not getting it" is down to not being comfortable.

Arrows keys all the way here, has been the same for 15+ years. Don't think I'll bother changing now.

Keep your index finger on D on your second finger on A then you user middle finger to go up W and down S, then you thumb is on the space bar, and you can shift (for walking / running) with your pinky. How simpler could it be.

This is the same way I do it, when I first got into PC gaming many years ago, it took me a while to get the hang of it, but now I wouldn't use anything else for most PC games.

I have a 360 pad, but I only use it for driving games, GTAIV and Batman AA.

Im so used to W,A,S,D that every time my hand goes near the keyboard my fingers automatically head to those keys, sign of gaming addiction i suppose.:D

I always have to remap keys to this, I cant play any other way

My standard fps keys

w = forwards
s = back
a = left
d = right
e = enter/exit
r/depress middle mouse = reload
c = crouch
v = run
b= voip
x = pickup
f = comms 1
t= comms 2
n = map
space = jump
ctrl = prone
left click = shoot
right click = alt fire
middle mouse click = reload
mousewheel scrolls = cycle weapons

Use forefinger for the r t f keys
middle of ym thumb stays on space
top of thumb goes around x c v b n
little finger stays on ctrl
3 fingers on awd alternating w for s

HybridX how you ever manage to play with those controlls is beyond me :) But although i prefer WASD in most cases whatever u feel most comfortable using is the best for you.

After MANY hours gaming it can get a little achey but im used to it now. Its a bit of a cramped setup for my left hand.

Also when i am playing liek that my keyboard is at a 20-45 degree angle to accomodate the style

WASD shouldn't be any problem if you play games with any frequency - a year sounds plenty long enough. My hand instinctively knows where it should be positioned. I don't think me being left-handed has any bearing on its usability.

At the moment my game time is shared between the 360 and PC. I am the super nintendo generation and must have people my age were bought up gaming on the consoles. I got into the PC gaming about a year ago and mostly like it.

What i do hate is when companies release the Console version much earlier than the PC version (Assassins creed 2) That means i buy the inferior Console version first.

For about a year now im still not fluent in WASD control. The mouse is 10000% better than using thumbsticks but i disklike WASD. I always end up looking down in the keboard or pressing the wrong keys in an intense fire fight.

I own a bog standard Keyboard and i was wondering if there was any products out there that make WASD easier to use?
I love WASD. I always used to use the arrows and then to reload etc. had to jump to the other side of the keyboard :rolleyes:

WASD+QERZXCF<SPACE><CTRL><SHIFT> *** :p

ugggh I hate WASD, tried it for a few days and it was ridiculous, then got the wolfking pad and it was worse!!! Went back to arrows and never lost a round of unreal tournament since ;)

My hand too settles into the correct WASD position, even when Im not gaming lol.
better question - left Ctrl or C for crouch?

I love WASD, but recently invested in a Xbox360 controller for windows, for Batman and Tomb raider. I'm finding adjusting to that pretty hard, since I've never been a console gamer. I guess it comes down to what you're used to.

what may help you is a light up keyboard or a game pad, ive seen people who dont like using big keyboards and it fits them perfectly.

Some keyboards allow you to light up certain keys as well.
