Anyone else have stuttering in COD4 with a 4850/4870 card?

OMG! Have I solved it! Just played about an 1hr of CoD4 and no problems!!!

Woo Hoo! Good times. lol.

So perhaps it was either the drivers, or, the temperature of the card.

But no problems at all with x4AA and smooth as butter with these DNA 8.6B Drivers from guru3d.com and 40% fan speed (will turn down when not gaming).



Will try Crysis tomorrow!!

So what is your system spec please Iraklis F.C?

it is a Phenom 9950 coupled with DFI 790FX M2R , mushkin 1066 4GB (2x2) , enermax liberty 620W a raptor 74 and 4 samsungs 500gigz. monitor is a LG 245WP

smooth as silk on a 4850 with max details and 4x aa

not much help from me but i can only echo this comment. i was playing the first few levels and everything was flowing nice. i was thinking any minute now something will come along and kill my framerate. but it didn't.... i finished the whole game (it's too ********* short damn it. ) and no slowdown at all.

(edit: admittedly at a lower res than the OP - 1680x1050 for me but then i do have a lesser 4850 card_)

Good that it's sorted but it's not right that you need to use 3rd party drivers to get your card to work properly, hopefully AMD will fix the problem in their next official drivers I'd be inclined myself to RMA it otherwise.

this happens to me aswell.

running an ATI HD2900GT and with no AA but everything max im getting around 50fps at 1920x1200 on MP. my textures are all set to high, the second i set them to extra, it happens..

using the DNA drivers did not solve it

does cloning the primary display really make much of a difference ?
mine is cloned by default and crysis/cod4 run perfectly fine on max details.....i didnt see an option to disable the cloning like i was able to with nvidia drivers.
the only way i was able to disable cloning was to enable the secondary display as an extra part of the desktop. but the fps dont change either way.
its as though its just sending the same signal out when cloning so not really doing any extra work which is pretty good.

I'm having exactly the same issue.
What drivers are you running? No problems with the third party drivers at all?

Just tried that tonight. Before playing I re-installed DX, uninstalled the beta drivers, ran driver sweeper and installed the hotfix version instead.

I ran a SP mission and still had this problem, not as pronounced however. I then tried the MP map as suggested.

Starting FPS @1920x1200 with x4AA (Edge-Mode) = 43FPS

When I ran forward = 38FPS. So it dropped very very slightly, but was very smooth still. So I don't think I have the problem you suggested???

1920x1200 x4AA (Edge-Mode) which is 12XAA on a 512MB card.

Firegod, did you update to the newest DNA drivres? are you still running DNA 8.6b ?
The stuttering in COD4 is driving me crazy.

Wow, I can't honestly remember. I think tbh I sold the card! I bought the 1Gb varient and this has been much better; no issues at all. I'm obviously now also running the 9.2 cats.

I can't remember if I still had intermittent issues as it was awhile back.

One thing to try actually, set AA in CCC to "application controlled" and set the drop down box to "BOX" not edge. Then set the AA in-game and see if that helps.

I think I was just running too high a res and AA/AF combo for the 512Mb card to handle.
