Anyone else having a hard time getting a job for the summer?

I managed to get one in the end, but it took a couple of weeks and the job isnt ideal anyway tbh. Well, the money's good so it'll do.

Luckily (or cleverly) i got a job at the start of year 11, through a friend. So whilst most of my friends were trying hard to find (part time) jobs after GCSE's, i was already getting plenty of money :D
Now im thinking about getting another job during the summer, hopefully it will help in my application that ive already been in a job for 21 months and ive done a year of college. Hopefully...

Depends what you were doing really. I worked in supermarkets right through 6th form but it doesnt seem to have helped much. Well, it would help if I wanted another supermarket job but I've done my stint tbh!

Working in the kitchen of a pub restaurant, involved plenty of skills (food preparation, health and safety, communication, working well with others etc). Oh and cleaning of course. Great if i want to become a cleaner! :p

I'm not that desperate...yet.

Do you even have any idea what temp agencies do?
I got my current job through Reed, and I work in a relaxed office, have plenty of benefits and can pick whichever shifts I want. My boyfriend is currently employed by Reed and gets paid almost £8 an hour for for his contracted shift.

Try any factories in the local area...it's hardly fun/exciting, but they can pay quite well...I'm on about £330 a week in a non skilled job because I do 12hr shifts (7am - 7pm for days, 7pm - 7am nights). The agency workers get more like £5-£6 an hour to do exactly the same job.

Kate accidentaly got into her career with Rolls Royce through an agency initially. You'd be a total fool to rule out agencies.

You realise that gives no actual comparison, right? You've given a weekly and an hourly total without giving a number of hours per week.

Assuming he does 5 shifts a week..hes getting no more than the agency workers.

Sorry, didn't realise I gave 2 different figures :o

3x12hr shifts, holidays paid weekly (as I assume the agency are as well), 1 week contract. The agency workers come in as and when and can be phoned a couple of hours before they need them, I'm given a working weeks notice.
