Am I just showing my age, or does anyone else miss the days before Xfire and Steam when IRC was the chat of choice?

Forums have obviously taken off massively in the last 10 years, but does anyone else miss the ability to drop into a subject chat channel of like-minded people without it being just a handful of AFK idlers?

Me and my friends from home still use it (although it's just us in the channel). Means we're always in the same place and can quickly tell everyone something/leave messages in the topic etc.

I used it a lot "back in the day" and still use it today but only because the chat rooms for Twit Live (live.twit.tv) use IRC.

Also lets not forget other fallen comrades such as Finger and Gopher. Some of use were on the Internet before it was just HTTP like some of the newbs think it is today.

I still use IRC, in fact I couldn't do without it.

#pbbans on quakenet is my favourite channel. Sometimes it can be quiet for hours, other times it can be overrun with fools complaining about being banned for cheating on PB enabled games. Great entertainment ;)

IRC is a powerful tool, I used to use it all the time but don't any more due to nobody being around on there I communicate with

I miss multiplayer notepad :( Used to use it a lot when I played Unreal. I completely forgot about Xfire, checking my profile for gaming hours depresses me.

I leave my IRC client running in the icon tray all day, periodically checking on it. But IRC isn't as popular as it used to be.
