Anyone else miss IRC?

I still use IRC every day, on ircnet, quakenet, autosport and a friends server. I also use a console based client and screen like someone above mentioned.

Still using IRC, have been since about 1997... to be honest it wouldn't feel right not having it open, always looks like somethings missing from my taskbar. Originally used it for Quake 2 + 3 purposes, like my old clan / co-ordinating admin duties for Savage etc. All of us from my old clan are pretty much still there, still playing games together although I don't play as much these days.

Used it heavily 1994-2001.

Think i've fired it up once or twice (no more) since then. Used to be a local #gibraltar channel that was very popular years ago, and the obligatory Quake2/clan/quake2.uk channels on Quakenet...where I think I lived for 3 years...

I used to use it extensively, from my Quake days to CS (pre Steam) ...used to use it for organisation and communication with Planetarion too and a variety of other things, such as downloading multimedia content. I do still use it from time to time, but rarely. Pitty really as I think it's by far the best method for text based communication even today, mIRC is a brilliant piece of software.

Still on there #q2ctf and #quake2.uk - not much to do with quake, more of a general chat about work whilst at work channel (most of are "in IT" in some way).

I still use Quakenet. Helps to keep in contact with my old UT99 clan buddies.

Its also the only chat program I use..meh at Messenger AIM etc..:D

Our guild used to use IRC during Everquest days....this was back in the day when MMO's didn't instance stuff so we used to have scouts out all the time checking on spawns and I could keep track at work as well!! If a rare spawn was up it was a brillant tool for co-ordinating everyone on!

We could go from 20 people online to over 100 in a minutes hehe. Plus when the servers were down it was superb for everyone to sit in and chat haha I miss it :(

Been using it every day - non-stop since 1997. Quakenet #id.
The old quakeworld iDentity clan still exist today. Hell I'm still using the 2001 mirc client :D

back in the days of my trusty 14.4 modem spent most time on IRC simply in channel wars, trying to get control of them ...then installing eggdrop bots to hold them :)

if you had a t1 shell account you could be king of your IRC domain...

Good times! My old channel #beginner on ircnet was rife with channel floods from those wars. Brrr

ALT+Z if you like IRC!

For some reason I cannot get into the official IRC room, it says I am banned but have no idea why? I don't ever remember being in the official room either! well at least not for years an years.

AOL user

IRC for the win, still use it 10 years on though most my hang outs have seen less users recently which is a shame.

Think i may have to venture out onto some new networks etc
