Anyone else underwhelmed with OLED?

I thought the jump was initially underwhelming when going from a Samsung KS8000 to an LG CX.

This is mostly because the KS8000 was a damn good TV that was really good for HDR contrast - the bright colours popped.

In comparison, the LG CX has a different sort of ‘darker colour’ contrast - the blacks are actually black, plus I feel there was better contrast across all other colours. It overall is a higher quality image, but the bright HDR content is nowhere near as good.

Also, the LG OLED has noticeable colour banding at times, which I think looks poor, plus the occasional auto dimming is ****ing maddening. If anyone has found a way to turn this off completely on an LG CX, let me know.

In summary, the OLED is overall better on a ‘pros and cons’ basis rather than a knockout ‘better on everything’.

It's clear to me you had unrealistic expectations of a Hisense OLED. Especially when it dosn't even make use of last years best tec from LG.
If this was a recent purchase from the rainforest, return it for a refund. Then get to Richer Sounds and buy this: https://www.richersounds.com/lg-oled55g26la.html
If a 55" G2 dosn't blow you away and give you enough "pop" for your eyes.................................then frankly, nothing will.
Went to Curry's to have a look at the g2 and was very impressed so bought the 65" g2 for £1999 Inc a free gx sound bar worth £899. Happy days just need to wait a few weeks now for my extension to be finished before I can wall mount the beauty.

Display snobs make me laugh. OH EM GEE you actually bought a Hisense lolololooll.... it's an LG panel underneath so I don't see what the problem is.

So I guess I was dumb and didn't understand OLEDs and I had higher expectations than I should have. Good to know.
Just cos you got the ingredients, doesn't make you a good chef.

Having an LG panel is half the story. If it ain't tuned well it's pants.

I wasn't asking if my purchase was a good one and if I should have gotten a different TV. If I wanted LG I would have bought LG. It's clear I just had unrealistic expectations.

Yeah well I did and I wasn't asking if I should have got an LG.

Someone's a bit butt hurt.

Return and get better - there are better TV's for what you paid.

Doesn't seem a great price to reward ratio at 1000quid for a hi sense oled. And I get they're not like the change from 1080 to 4k but any new TV I buy will be oled.

Personally I have an LG C1 and cost £1370 a year ago

Display snobs, ahem, you paid more than these display snobs did and you bought a Hisense..

This is just my experience so don't hate.
I bought two Hisense products in my life.

1: A fridge freezer. It went back a week later as it made a horrible noise.
2: A 50 inch LED TV (forget model). The TV is adequate...we kept it. The picture is a bit washed out with grey blacks. I don't mean in comparison to an OLED. I mean in comparison to other LED TVs. The menus are a bit pap, and the in built apps were poor I just bought a firestick instead. It's ok, but I can see flaws in it. It's in one of my kids bedrooms so they find it ok.

I personally wouldn't buy a Hisense product again. I know they are a budget brand, but with TVs, the market is so competitive, you may as well spend a small amount more on the better brands. My experience of TVs over the years has been like this:

Hisense - average
Toshiba - good
LG - excellent
Sony - excellent
Samsung - mixed, good and bad

Imagine thinking that the same panel means it’s just as good.

Samsung and Sony both have the same QD-OLED panel and yet the Sony is supposed to be a lot better due to tuning and processing.

Why not educate him instead of being inflammatory? :-)

@TheLegendOfMart here’s some info:

1. You’re coming from a QLED, which is generally going to be a decent TV anyway

2. You bought a Hisense - while they use the same panel, the way in which it’s calibrated makes a big difference. Much like gaming monitors.

3. The biggest difference between OLED and LCD is demonstrated in the evening, when you watch a film in a darker room. It’s all about the contrast ratio, not necessarily about the colours. If you game, try gaming on it too - also a huge difference due to improved motion clarity.

Also, just FYI, £1,000 on a Hisense OLED is quite a lot. You could recently get an LG C1 for <£900 :-)

This might come across as not very helpful, but I always assumed hisense tvs were more in the 500 quid range and not really much higher.

Plugged my previous QLED back in and other than blacks being dark grey (doesn't have FALD) there's not really that much difference. I think I'm going to return the Hisense.
