Anyone else? Virgin 50 Meg...

Your cutting off your nose to spite your face though as your the one whose going to end up worse off when they refuse to respond due to the abuse.

If you don't believe me then see how sympathetic Ofcome are of your case when you tell them that Virgin won't help you with your slow broadband due to being abusive.

As if OFCOM would want to know!!
lol
OFCOM = Dog with no teeth
If OFCOM had teeth then they would not let Virgin get away with a lot of what they do now.
FALSE ADVERTISING FOR ONE!!
Fibre optic!!
Fibre optic from green box beyond (hmmmm) not from house.
Don't preeach to me about OFCOM etc.
Not having a go at you my friend.
Don't believe of+++++ whatever as they have no any teeth!!

I'm guessing that reboots of your cable modem don't make a difference? What are your stats from the modem?

I'm guessing that reboots of your cable modem don't make a difference? What are your stats from the modem?

Modem has been rebooted that many times that I'm surprised the it has not become a football.
I'm well seasoned with Virgin Media formerly Blueyonder so rebooting modem etc is second nature to me.
I've had no problems with 50 meg service until now which has been nearly 12 months.
When I first got it installed the tech had to come and exchange the modem after a week because all of a sudden it went dead.
Techie said that that I was one of the first in my area to have 50 meg service and that I was experiencing the teething problems.
He even went on to say that it's not the modem but he would swap it anyway to make sure.
I asked what the problem was and he replied.........
They have disconnected it (mac address) from the net for some reason.
Maybe by mistake??
As for OFCOM....
F... OFCOM more like. :D

lol Speirs.

Why are you convinced that the newsgroup guy is talking bull? They are usually the 2nd line guys and tend to know their stuff.

That said if you spoke to me like that you wouldn't get much help from me.

Update to my 50 meg connection.
Still pants in the evening but mysteriously goes back to full service after 00:30 at night which I have pointed out to them.
What would your conclusion be to this....
I've monitored my connection the past five nights.
From late afternoon to after midnight my connection goes dire.
I get 3 meg download speed if I'm lucky and very high pings.
Come 00:30 and BANG BANG BANG... Back to 50 meg and superb pings.

I have the 20 meg Virgin service and will be getting the 50 meg service installed in 2 weeks time.
Here is a typical current connection speed i get.

While i am on this thread, do Virgin have to do anything with my PC as the guy on the phone was on about a card that had to be fitted somewhere, not sure exatly what he meant to be honest by my mobo has onboard Gigabit LAN and also why does my Speedtest results show me as Telewest and not Virgin like the others on here??

Thanks.

My 50mb has been perfect since I got it installed, but for the last few weeks it's been running badly at around 15mb. I guess either they've started to throttle the xxl package now or it's just due to the high load from everyone being on holiday.

My connection was dead for about 3 hours today. No phone, TV , or internet.

Now at least it's back on, but speeds are still absolutely **** as usual. :(

Network throttling at peak times.

Was on 20mb line, got 2 if i was lucky for around 3 months, so i stopped paying for the next three months.

Been on o2 ever since 2007/8

I doubt you are oversubscribed. If the VM newsgroup guys say the utilization on your UBR is fine it will be fine. They are a higher line of support than the people you talk to on the phone.

It could be your power levels or anything causing the problems. Just have faith and keep talking to the guys on the newsgroups. They will find the problem eventually.

Virgin didn't buy Telewest. ntl bought Telewest, Virgin Mobile and the rights to use the Virgin name, then rebranded themselves as Virgin Media. Branson has a 6.5% stake in Virgin Media, that's as far as the involvement goes.

As to why it still shows as Telewest, that's just part of the host name the speedtest site gets when it does a reverse DNS lookup on your IP address, it's fairly meaningless.
