Hi,
My mum have just rencently found out that if my mum who is in her ealry sixties has to go into a care home- the care home can make her sell her house.

I still live at home and are worried that if anything happend to my mum, the care home could force her to sell her house and make me homeless.

Is anyone else worried about this? I think this is really terrible.

Does anyone here know any ways round this?

surely you must be in your twenties?

get your own place!! you are too old to be living at home :p

edit: 29 years old, seriously :/

Get the home in your name, but i think its too late for that now. It has to have been transfered to you 7 or more years ago.

isnt that for inheritance tax? or would the same apply here?

Err get your mum to give you the house, or if she really hates you i suppose she will let them make her sell it.

God why must everyone in their 20's move out. Maybe he doesn't want to get him self in big debt for no reason other than living by him self.

Christ man, if you think people move out to accumulate debt you've totally missed the point.

If parent's need to go into a care home. It is very expensive. you sell the house and use some/all of the money into some sort of managed fund/ insurance. Where they'll agree to pay X amount every week for X number of years.

And no if your 18+ you can get a job and find a room somewhere.

Or re mortgage it in your name, and use that money to pay for the care home.

What type of care home are we talking about as well? As in a hospital type one?

Maybe he's looking after his sick mother?.

And as for the property, is she in a position to hand the property over to you?.

Hi,
Yes my mum would be in a position to put the house in my name-but a friend told my mum not to do it incase I got married and the "wife" filed for divorce.

No one who is 29 or 30 HAS to move out of home without a reason, but for god sakes if you mum has to go into a home the last thing on your mind should be worrying about who is going to look after you at that age.

Get your own place and spend more time worrying/caring for your mum.

go and earn money to pay for home care... in her own home when the time comes.

My advice? Get yourself a lawyer. You really don't want to get this wrong.

And yes, the rule that the care home can make your mum sell her home to pay for care is frankly, evil imo.
