Anyone ever put a thermal pad on the caps / VRM of a delided CPU?

Kinda tempted to stick one over them when I delid my 4790k and see what happens

It seams like it gets blamed for a lot of the heat, so if we can get the heat out better, that's good right?

I would have to guess the thickness though, which might be a problem... Could cause uneven torquing and crack the die if I go too thick.

Thoughts?
 
Longer answer - you aren't going to significantly increase the transfer of heat from those components (capacitors shouldn't be generating heat of any consequence though regulators can) as they aren't designed in that way (typically designed to dissipate heat throughout the component body and into the traces) and they are typically rated stable through -55C to 125C or 150C lasting >1000 hours at max temperature and potentially 100,000 hours at the normal operating temperature so you won't really change how well they perform or how long they will last either.
