Anyone fancy a £99k, 16.5k lens.

It's good marketing for MPB if nothing else, this has made it onto Petapixel.com. I've used them quite a bit and they're good chaps. Hope it works out for them!

Not Canons biggest lens by a long shot.

They made a 5200mm f/14 lens, possibly only three were built.

Does anyone know anything more about this?
I am curious as to what purpose it was produced for.
Given the extreme size and small maximum aperture there can't be many uses for it.

I found some general articles on it but nothing about its history etc.

Probably true! :D

You do realise that Sports Illustrated is an editorial sports magazine with one of the largest magazine readerships in the world? The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is just an annual special edition.

So they are going to be putting those lenses to use at sports events, rather than to shoot a model on a beach from half a mile away! :p

Problem then becomes the air turbulence.

I have a 105mm aperture 670mm focal length (f/6.38) but by coupling high end extenders one 2x and one 5x I have shot at 6700mm (f/63.8) the problem being is that the aperture is below dawes law and so the image softens and any air heat haze is very noticeable - other other problem is the target needs to be bright … well as the sun really lol!
