OK, so I know that half the fun ought to be in the actual building, but:

a) I've never done one before (but have replaced individual components), so it would probably take me quite a while.

b) I already have a list of things 'to do' that will keep me busy until Christmas .......... 2012. And 3 young kids who would like me to spend some time with them. So the chance of getting a 'free' half day or more seems very unlikely.

c) I know that some of you enjoy doing this sort of thing and are probably - no definitely - going to do a better job of it than me!

So, I'd be interested to know if there is anyone around Birmingham / Worcester / Pershore area who'd like to put together a load of components for me??!! I'd be happy to provide a few beer tokens - but hoping to find someone who's main motivation is not payment (ie - not trying to make a living from PC assembly!).

If you don't mind shipping the lot to london I'll do it for a small fee. Though to be honest with you the only people I'd trust to build my system are those which do it for a living, or myself obviously. I'll be dead before I see my kit in the hands of "Someone from the internet". If you arn't confident doing it yourself take it to a local custom PC shop. They might be equally as rubbish as someone from the net but at least as a business they will have to replace anything they break :)

I'm fairly sure I could do it.

But I also suspect it would take me quite a while.

And I' not sure I can:

a) find the free time

and more to the point:

b) cope with 'the wife' giving me grief about all the other things that need doing!! ;)

So, I'm investigating the alternatives!!

Pointer (A)

Obviously dont give them beer tokens while building said machine, lol. :D

Id take the plung and do it yourself.... you got to learn one day - you got everybody on this forum to help you along the way... we all had to do a first PC build! I can tell you its not that difficult... its like lego, but you can only stick things in right places.

If you want me to build it for you, come up to manchester and I will teach you and build it for you for a small fee

you could've been up and running from the time between your two posts

it's expensive lego, that's all

Great post that.

Personally I'd do it once the kids are in bed. Set yourself an area to do it in and just get to it. That way if it's taking you longer than expected you can just set to it the same time next day. Rinse and repeat until finished.

I'd say bring it down to London, and all I'll ask is a pint or three at the local... but you have got to learn yourself someday.

Take pictures and post them as you go along. Any problems just ask us lot. ITs what we are here for. =D

Give a man a fish and he can feed himself for a day.
Teach him to fish and he can feed himself for life.

Agree with the folk saying you need to learn to do it yourself.

Bear in mind since it's just expensive lego you dont need to build it all at the same time.

Try doing a few items a day 30-60 mins worth and you'll be built before the end of the week.

as ricky gervais said...

give a man a fish he can feed himself for a day,
give him a rod, and he'll go ###### mental (does loads of fishing actions with his arms :D

I also agree with building it yourself, as has been said earlier, an hour or so a night and you'll be done by the end of the week! I wasn't sure about building my first pc a couple of summers ago, I'm glad I did though, any problems etc and chances are I'll know exactly what it is! Definitely worth it just for the confidence!

OK, OK, OK!!!!

I'm beginning to feel ganged up on!! ;)

I'll seriously consider having a go... unless someone happens to come along before the bits arrive! :D

I think it might be wise at this point to mention the littleun I refer to is 9 months old and I don't really condone giving small children matches and superglue to play with.
knowing mine I'd find her high as a kite, foot glued to her head in the burnt down wreckage of my house :( </responsible parent> :P

Not if he wants to get his money's worth :P

Some of our systems work out the same price assembled as just the components / sometimes fall a little under on occasion.

You also get phone support and a collection warranty to back you up if there is trouble.
