GuruJockStrap said:I've just flashed the Vario II again to ROM version 2.05 (WM5, AKU 3.3) and the very latest radio version.
Feels much quicker than the previous 1.35 I had on there.
I really feel sorry for those still using the default T-Mobile branded firmware!
GuruJockStrap said:All you had to do was download the .exe firmware version you want, connect Vario II to PC, establish and Active Sync connection, make sure PC is not set to hibernate or similar (not good halfway through a flash!), make sure battery is full and then run the .exe.

sadly i can't figure out how to do this on my Vario2.

The one we're using is the HTC 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 (top of the list).
MMS works perfectly here. Just make sure you visit the link further up the thread I posted. Instructs you how to manually enter the details step by step with pictures.

I just flashed the phone with HardSPL and then ran the 2.11 ROM Upgrade .exe. Took 10 minutes in total and works like a charm.
My 3G issue at home seems to be ok today as I can finally send and recieve calls. Must have been a local transmitter issue but will be keeping an eye on it.
Did you try using the phone at various location?
Will add that the 1.38.10 Radio version in this 2.11 ROM is having a positive effect on battery life.
Pulled my phone away from the mains socket yesterday at around 12pm, made a call, sent/recieved loads of texts in the evening, made a call today and browsed the net. Battery now showing 50%.
steviec said:GuruJockStrap many thanks for this info, bit the bullet and upgraded to the stated firmware and it has given my Vario II a whole new lease of life. It's far better, more responsive, better battery life. Now running Opera and the advised DNS Settings and that is vastly superior over T-Mobiles.
Been on the new settings just over a week now and everything is more stable. Like the fact you get the relevant symbols for 3G, H for HSDPA and even an E for EDGE when I was in Paris last week.
Thanks again
GuruJockStrap said:Not 100%, but once you've setup the data connection, don't you go into Settings > Connections > Add new modem connection?
