As per title, anyone done this flight in economy class?

Wondering how you found the 17 odd hours and was economy decent enough?

Ta for any advice!

Premium Economy or bust for that long. Singapore a good middle ground but basically you just have 2 miserable flights instead of 1.

I done Qatar to NZ, which was 17 hours (longest flight in the world, at the time iirc). Done a night shift, popped a sleeping pill - woke in New Zealand. Best flight I've ever had.

OP if you can be selective make sure it is an A380, Dreamliner or A350 or something modern. Makes a big difference.

Done 15 hours on an Emirates A380 (weather delays in Dubai had us circling for an hour or so until it was safe to land), and a few 14 hour flights from Dubai to Brisbane or Sydney and back. Tbh, as much as I loved the A380, 14 hours was enough, I just wanted to get off. It was nice to walk up and down the aircraft though to be fair.

The longest I was in was 8 hours from Manchester to Chicago. That felt like a long journey.

How do you guys occupy yourselves on a 10+ hour flight?

Are the flights to Australia usually at our night time, or in the morning?

It is literally the only time I find Marvel/Capcom/super hero films at all sufferable.

Sleeping tablets.

I've flown countless 10h+ flights, whether it be to Murica, Joburg or Sydney. I've learned to take a few sleeping tablets and pop one before getting on the plane. Just don't mix them with your erm... *cough* other tablets, like I did when I was 21. That was quite possibly the most interesting, amazing and friendliest flight I've ever taken. Even the screaming baby in the next row was an absolute peach, the poor bugger.

haha, that sounds like the perfect combo for the 17 hr flight.

Thanks a lot for the info guys, really appreciate. I've done the flight before few years back tfrom heathrow to melb via guangzhou. I think I'll see if I can get a singapore flight, sounds the like the best bet.

Longest I've done I think is 10 hours - there is something especially mundane once you get beyond a certain point - without getting some sleep in there 17 hours wouldn't be fun. Personally I can't sleep on a plane.

Been lucky so far and on the longer flights got seats at the front of sections so extra leg room - makes a huge difference. I struggle a bit with dehydration on longer flights as well.

Where are you all getting these sleeping pills from ? Most clinicians I know are very hesitant to give any out…
Edit: not looking for tips or hookups, it is an observation as I’m surprised at the seeming wide availability as suggested by posters

flying is generally miserable. I’d either have a night to recover in a hotel half way or just go for the full flight. The stop over for a couple of hours isnt what it’s cracked up to be after you’ve already been up for over 24 hours.

It was 14hrs on the way back from Singapore couple weeks ago, I slept for 10 of those hours lol had all 4 seats in economy middle row all to myself.

On the way out there, and any flights that are longer than 8hrs, I find my bum stars to hurt from sitting down in the same posture for that long. But generally I still can find ways to sleep 5hrs or so in a long haul. I can sleep pretty much anywhere, no need for sleeping tablets.

Note that due to covid, you are not going to be able to visit the Jewel on a stop over as that is outside immigration. To get into Singapore right now require a lot of paperwork and tests, PCR before and immediately upon landing which then you are required to isolate in a hotel until results come back. To get around anywhere you also need their Track and Trace app.

Anyway, the airport is quite dead right now, half the stuff are not open, the butterfly garden closed also.

it must work (due to the name..) but is it also possible to be buzzing like a wasp after taking some Nytol? :p

maybe adrenaline kicks in for some people...somehow?

I was about to make a viagra joke after you said the 'friendliest flight' but decided against it after reading the following sentence.

Longest i've done is 13 hours to LA with a slight delay, for me it's all dependant on how well you can sleep on a plane and how much room you have to move about. I can fall asleep easily on planes so as long as I don't have a stopover I can kill time.

A quick google suggests it's still a lengthy journey from Singapore to Aus, although it depends what side of Aus. If it's your first time and you've never been to Singapore I'd do the stopover, maybe factor in some time to explore, have a bite, stretch your legs, and maybe clean up at a lounge (they're good value for money I find if you're on a lengthy journey).

If the direct flight meant I got an extra day or so then it's a no brainer and I'd pick it every time.
